The SEC on CBS led the week seven college football ratings charts, at least in the metered markets.

Georgia-LSU scored a 3.7 overnight rating on the SEC on CBS Saturday, up 68% from last year (Auburn-LSU: 2.2), but down 12% from 2016 (Alabama-Tennessee: 4.2).

The Tigers’ upset win delivered the highest college football overnight of week seven, marking the second time this season that CBS has topped the charts. Head-to-head, it edged the competing Dodgers-Brewers National League Championship Series game on FOX (3.5).
Ranking a close second for the weekend, Wisconsin-Michigan scored a 3.6 overnight on ABC’s Saturday Night Football — up 57% from last year (Utah-USC: 2.3) but down 36% from 2016 (Ohio State-Wisconsin: 5.6).

No other game Saturday exceeded a 2.2 overnight. ABC scored a 2.2 for regional action featuring either Washington-Oregon or UCF-Memphis (-12%), and ESPN also scored a 2.2 for Missouri-Alabama (+5%).

Rounding out the top five, Pittsburgh-Notre Dame scored a 2.1 on NBC (+13%).

I probably will not watch any games this weekend, since Pitt and the Steelers are both off, I might watch soccer and NFLRZ and that's about it.

It’s amazing how much mass appeal baseball has lost. Maybe it’s because the LCS games aren’t on network TV or maybe people just don’t care like they used to. If you would have told the 15-year old me that I wouldn’t have watched a pitch of the AL or NLCS so far I wouldn’t have believed it.

I'm the same way, I used to be glued to the TV for the entire baseball playoffs. Now I have to think real hard to remember who won last years World Series. Of course, that could be from the CTE kicking in

Saber metrics are KILLING baseball

This yr was the first time Ever there were more strike outs than basehits. EVER
With walks, HRs, and strike outs the ball is put in play half the time if that.

Last nights game went 5.5 hours and featured......
32 STIKEOUTS.

but saber metrics improved the Buccos from their 98 win season

Oh

Nevermind

The game is a little different now from my youth, but overall everything else around it changed more (society, tv, other sports) and it made the game seem slow and dull. Not "cool" for sure.

Plus the impression that it's gamed for just the big money teams to be in serious contention annually. Impression, I say ... I think I read how the Yankees spent billions in the last decade to win one championship, or something ridiculous ... but it's a powerful impression I think. If you asked the average joe he'd likely guess the Yankees win it every other year and it's the Red Sox for the rest.

The fact that college football really IS gamed for the rich programs, oddly seems not to have an impact.

People just don't care. It's baseball.

One, it is these pitching changes. Just too much. Just too much also of the batter or pitcher in a stare down contest. Hey batter, get in the box. Hey pitcher, throw the goddamned baseball. The shifts are boring. People don't want to watch spreadsheets, they want to watch baseball. But the pitching changes. Starters go 5 innings. Maybe. Then you bring in 1+1+1+1 relievers, plus maybe 1 other Righty or Lefty specialist.

Add on to that the fact is I never know what friggin channel the games are on. They no longer are on network, they are on TBS or TNT, or FS1, which if you are traveling in hotels, good luck finding.

Wait, baseball season isn't over yet? Who is in the World Series?

The shifts are rediculous.

Some shifts have no one from SS over. I just don’t get why people don’t take the free base and just bunt.

Because players tend to be stubborn and not all too smart.

You want the shifts to end? All that needs to happen is for the batters to start taking all the free singles that the shifting teams are willing to give them. If the batters aren't willing to do the simple task that will end the shift, why punish the defense?

The MLB Playoffs have been good this year. The biggest issue is all the different channels and times. Tough to capture the casual sports fan this way.
