Since this is a uniform conscious group, I thought I would throw this out here....

Has anyone noticed the Pirates haven't worn the alternate Black top this year yet (home or away). Or if I did miss it, it's much, much less.

Think it's the best looking jersey in baseball, especially at home. Seems very absent this year. Is there a reason?

They were wearing them in Cincy this year when Marte hit the grand slam with the cold weather mask over his face. I believe they were originally only intended as a Friday night alternate home jerseys when first introduced but gradually became the most frequently used jersey. There doesn't seem to be any clear rationale as to when they wear them now.

Starting pitchers choose the jersey top. They wore grey so much on the road because of the winning streak and didn't want to change. Superstitious. Liriano and Locke usually pick the black jersey top, so maybe tonight or tomorrow. But they could be in full boycott of the black jersey top until the winning streak ends.

I honestly never knew that the pitcher picks the jersey, but I suppose that makes some sense given the seeming randomness of the non-Sunday game selections.

I am not a fan of the black alternates. First of all, for the past few years, they have worn them way too often.

It's nice to see them every once a while - or even on a regular basis - but there was a period last year where we never wore white at home. I'm not in favor of that at all.

Also, it drives me crazy that the gold on the jersey numerals is a different shade than on the nameplate. That often looks weird to me.

Also, neither the names or the numbers match the gold on the helmet or the ball caps. I don't like that at all. The gold on the jersey is two or three shades lighter than the gold P on the Pirates' batting helmet. That's just poor. Honestly, it is straight out of something you might see Pitt try to pull off - and fail.

The black alternate is nice, but the normal home whites are one of the best jerseys in baseball, so I'm happy to see less of them. The real crime is retiring the 1971 throwbacks, which is the best baseball jersey of all time.

Cardinals and Yanks (pinstripes of course)have the best jerseys of all time...the 71 isn't even the Buccos best.
Jmo of course

But 71 was revolutionary.
New material, no buttons and then copied by maybe 80% of other teams...

The button downs have come back but unless misremembering the material used was a break away and Bucs lead the way?????

I love the sleeve stripes and the two-tone gold caps. Though I will admit, I'm probably biased in saying they are the best since I associate them with this picture...

My fav was the vest, with the black sleeves, the one's worn in the 60's and was brought back a few years ago. Guess I am reliving the past.
