OT: "The highest grossing concert tour in history"

Well the difference is that concerts used to be mostly a promotional tool to sell albums, which is where artists made almost all of their money. Today, pretty much no one makes any money selling albums or singles, or anything else like that. The way they make money is on concert tickets. That's why some bands are basically out on tour perpetually, and that's why they charge so much for tickets. If they don't, they can't afford to make a living.
That us true. Read an article where touring and merchandising bring in the income. Tours are hot because people appears to want to see a band live because the music is so available elsewhere.

Merchandising goes beyond the $80 cheaply made t shirts at a concert. It’s now dedicated websites and being sponsored by luxury brands ti wear their clothes etc.

R.E.M. is one that has.

Yeah, but they aren't all dead yet.

There have been a lot of bands that were apart for a long time, and then when the check got big enough all the sudden they were back together again.

I mean obviously my blanket statement is a little bit of hyperbole, but we have seen so many instances of bands that said that they would never play together again playing together again that you should never say never.
