Methinks you’re overinflating Cowher’s record. He won less than 10 games 6/15 years with the Steelers and lost to plenty of bad teams.

True. But he also had elite RBs and great defenses during an age when RBs and defenses had a much bigger impact than they do now.

Cowher didn’t lack for talent on his roster. And the lack of QB falls on him too.

Cowher was basically the twin of the late Marty Schottenheimer. Excellent regular seasons then wetting themselves in the playoffs. Home field advantage throughout the playoffs five times making the Super Bowl just one of those times. Cheap shotting Carson Palmer then a miraculous tackle by Big Ben against the Colts prevented another flameout in 2005. Of course there was also the officiating in the Super Bowl against Seattle to help offset a horrendous performance by Roethlisberger.

Looking back at 2005 they were probably fortunate to avoid Brady that year in the playoffs

If these 6 things happen, the Steelers are in the playoffs:

This week:
1. NE over MIA (or a tie)
2. SEA over NYJ (or a tie)
3. PIT over BAL

Next week:
4. PIT over CLE
5. BUF over NE (or a tie)
6. NYJ over MIA (or a tie)

Those six games are literally the ONLY games that matter to the Steelers the rest of the season. No other game matters. If ANY of those six don't go the Steelers' way, they are out.

Note: With Tua back in concussion protocol, and Mike White cleared for the Jets.... the odds of MIA losing both games are higher now.

Note 2: The four games not involving the Steelers can also end in a tie, and that works for the Steelers too. As long as BOTH Miami games don't end in a tie, only one of them.

Well the first two happened. 4 left and the Steelers control 2 of them.
