According to a report, Herman to Texas all but official.

Never did understand Strong to Texas anyway.

Not surprised. I think with Houston not getting into the b12 pretty much guaranteed he was going elsewhere. Won't guarantee he will be a star at TX though. He did well at houston but I think they had more talent than everyone they played except for OK and he lost 2 games. Never know when you hire someone with that little experience, at least I don't think its a guaranteed home run hire.

Feel bad for him. Great coach, but Texas was never a fit for him.
Stinks that the two top jobs he'd be great at, Florida and Miami, opened while he was at Texas.

Doubt LSU would want him. Maybe if FSU opened he'd get a look.
Hopefully a big time program hires Strong as he deserves it.

Texas should be pretty good next year. They should really give Strong one more year to get that thing on track. Houston's season isn't exactly going to be anything to write home about if they get boat-raced by Louisville. What happened Saturday night in Dallas was a disgrace.

Players check out when they know their coach is on the way out.

Not always, but sometimes that is the case. I pretty sure Urban Meyer's Utah team didn't check out of the Fiesta Bowl.

I'm not even sure Tom Herman is going to be the hottest name out there. There is a chance Chip Kelly is back on the market.

That rumor came out at the end, and the media in Houston is a different animal than Utah.

Maybe. But this is about more than the SMU game. They looked like crap against Navy &Tulsa too. Coaching turnover is all part of it in this day and age. Maybe the Cougars just aren't that good.

Herman is a strong coach - young, energetic, etc. But if I'm Texas I need to take a good looooong look at the whole picture. I think his established relationships and ability to recruit regionally is a big plus, but it appears he has lost this team (at the very least the last 2 weeks) which to me is the ultimate red flag. Texas needs a HR hire. I would look more at an established coach of a P5 school with good success annually. No names in particular jump out, but they have the $$$$$ to poach. Perhaps sticking with Strong another year is more prudent. JMO. Glad I'm not in their shoes.

Strong is a good coach, he will have his choice of next jobs

Not so sure about having "his choice." Strong might be a really good guy, but he's certainly not looking like a really good coach.

Everyone keeps giving the guy a pass for some reason. I just don't get it. He's got to be one of the most overhyped head coaches in college football. He should get some credit for his record his last two years at Louisville, yet they had some pretty soft schedules. When Strong started at Texas he already had top level talent and landed a top 10 recruiting class the past 2 years, yet his teams often play like they are 2 star talent. Great coaches with great talent just don't lose that many games. He'll have another chance to prove himself at another school for sure... maybe at a lower tier Power5 school like BC... but he certainly has not been impressive in Texas.

Doesn't Baylor already have an established head coach, who is doing quite well so far in year one?

Jim Grobe is no johnny come lately

Strong inherited a soft program and had to flush out so many of Mack Brown's players who thought they were royalty because they were once Texas high school All-Americans. Brown's O-line recruiting his last four years or so has become legendary for how bad it was, like way worse than the Walt and Freeman days. Strong has done a decent job of building that unit back up.

The nail in the coffin for Strong appears to have occurred last week in the loss to Kansas State. The team has showed no improvement when playing on the road and the defense can't make stops when necessary. If there is a change, Herman seems to be the guy but Chip Kelly's name keeps getting dropped here and there. Texas definitely needs to make a splash hire this time as it can't afford to drop the ball again. Hiring a permanent AD also needs to be done.

You better wait untill the end of the year before saying Holgy to anywhere.I still see some loses coming up and his record over the years at Wvu isn't great.Hes riding high right now but even the best riders get bucked off sometimes! If he gets a good offer after the year I see him riding off into the Southern Sunset! He like Heather Breech aren't the most liked people down here!

The last time Texas poached a coach from UNC it worked out pretty well for them. I'd suggest they look in that direction again. Guy's done a lot at a traditional basketball school. Also pretty amazing the talent he's brought in with a cloud hanging over the program's head. Also I'd love LF out of UNC.

If Im Strong, I look at ACC or SEC schools. I think he could do scary good at a school like NC State.

Its a risk for TX, as I said earlier he is only in his second season at a G5 school and others have pointed out a loss to Lou. and he didn't have a great year. He might be a great coach but its a little early for me to think its a HR hire if I am a TX fan. Ideally at places like LSU or TX you would think they could find a guy who has had a run of 4 or 5 years at another P5 school. Maybe not top 10 finishes but top 25 finishes at a school that hasn't been there that often. NC head coach is a good example. Holgy if he has a long run and ends up 10-2 or better could actually have a shot at LSU if they strike out on their top options(which I think they will try for herman and Fisher then go down the list)

yeah strong is a good fit at a school like Louisville or Nc state. Decent school, that plays in a conference with FL ties but would struggle to normally recruit the 20 to 100 ranked type kids in FL. Strong will land a few more of those types, which are normally 4 star kids, and then bring in a few of the under the radar types. He will recruit well enough at schools similar to those mentioned above to have a shot at top 25 teams.

Paul Johnson might get the axe so Strong to GT makes sense. They play Miami every year and he can clean up in South Florida.

How much of Fisher's success is because he is a great coach vs being in a great situation? I'm thinking that Holgy and Herman are both better football coaches, especially since it appears that Holgy has matured as a person a bit.

Oh Pete you hit the nail on the head Holgy has did a 360 in maturity. He was an unorganized mess when he took over, now he a head coach. He learned on the job,to bad for WVU in those years.Great offensive mind but he's not in Jumbo's class yet!

Exactly. I'm not feeling all the love for Holgy right now. WVU is having a very good year but they have collapsed 4 years in a row. Even if they keep it together this year, it's one good year out of 5 and suddenly he's a hot commodity?

That's actually a very good choice.
