Did see McAfee make a good point. His Jacksonville State team won Conference USA. He might pull a Cignetti and cherry pick a good bit of talent off it to bring with him. I believe Indiana has ten guys starting who were at JMU last season.

Between that and their donor base being excited there, I’m afraid they will be passing us as a program over the next several years considering our small donor base as it is isn’t exactly excited about anything right now.

Disclaimer: I hope this post ages poorly.

I think he's also a pretty good coach. Absolutely didn't work out at Michigan, and I get that. But he put some solid seasons together at Arizona, and they have done nothing since. He won three major bowls at WVU, back when they still mattered, and had them at 11-1, 11-2, and 11-2 on his way out. He took over a Jacksonville State team that just made the leap to the FBS and won 9 games in each of his first two seasons there.

It may or may not work out, but I certainly like their chances better than I did with Neal Brown and the old StAbiLiTy!! method.

You mean the 10-3 Arizona Wildcats of 2023-2024 who were thought to contend for Big XII championship until Jedd Fisch left for Washington.

Well, since the year 2000:

Average # of wins with Rich Rodriguez (6 seasons) = 7.17

Average # of wins with other coaches (19 seasons) = 4.68

It's pretty significant to elevate a school that much. You're right - they did have a 10-win season six years after he left. Being thought of as a Big 12 Championship contender, however, isn't all that impressive when what you actually do is go 4-8.

So the hired RichRod to be as good as Pitt?

We’ll see. He survived on recruiting Florida last time. Not sure that pipeline will come back.

I'm not predicting success, for the record. I genuinely don't know. Just think they're better off than they were continuing to march on with Neal. Or that it was at least worth taking a chance.

There is no reason they cant win the Big 12....and quick. Who is the best program in the Big 12? Its the old Big East. There isnt a program necessarily any better than WVU. Now, that isnt saying much but its probably true

The Vegas spread for the #1 team at the #12 team in that conference could actually favor the latter. There is simply no other conference like that. Every team is Pitt, give or take.

Only one I could see potentially elevating above the pack for any sustained period might be Utah.

Who the hell knows how it is going to turn out. But, RR has definitely rejuvenated interest in the program and there are 3-4 mega donors who have promised he won't fail because of NIL money. Two weeks ago the AD said the school is committed to be at or near the $20.5 cap on revenue sharing and supposedly these donors are willing to pony-up $20m for annual NIL.

If that is close to accurate, you and I could probably cobble together a decent team.

I dont agree on Utah. Over the long-run, they are like everyone else. Maybe BYU can elevate if the LDS church pays huge player salaries. BYU is paying the #1 bball player $7 million. Not sure where that money is coming from. But the LDS church could buy 10 straight natty's with the money in their couch cushions.

They hired a bad coach with a career losing record because their financial problems at university overall prevented them from spending.

Arizona State is probably in a great position. They have all of the Phoenix money and a great coach who is an alum.

WVU has a long history of ………. Nothing. They have had 15 really decent seasons in their history
Arguably but that’s really it. Many years of hum football and a losing record to Pitt on top of that.

Hey Inbreds. You suck

Watched the presser and I think some Pitt fans interrupted like some protest at a political event. Couldn't hear them but the crowd started booing, Rich Rod stopped for a minute and said any other Pitt fans can leave the building

I've not seen that, but I think there are a good amount of WVU fans who've felt betrayed by him leaving for Michigan and aren't really taking kindly to this. Like anything else, it'll all depend on winning and losing.

Yea, I guess it could have been a disgruntled WVU fan because I couldn't hear what they said. But being that Rich Rod said any other Pitt fans can leave, I figured maybe a few Pitt students made the trip and yelled something about 13-9

Uh, Top 15 in all time wins would beg to differ. Champions of Sugar Bowl against Georgia, Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma, Orange Bowl against Clemson would beg to differ....and all those happened in the last 17 years.

WVU hired RichRod at a discount salary, paying him less than what Neal Brown was making.

WVU then went out and hired security for RichRod, also at a major discount 👇

Saying what?
Someone apparently yelled, "Go back to Michigan." It got quiet and you could tell he was uncomfortable and probably expecting something though. No doubt it was a WVU fan because the base has been very split on him coming back. Then crowd started booing the heckler and they escorted him out. The crowd cheered and that's when Rich said that about pitt fans leaving. But it was an uncomfortable moment.

RichRod got a base salary that is $3.75m. But it is very heavy on performance incentives that could push his pay to over $6m. I think WVU was very smart to get him on a performance based contract with a manageable buyout if things don't work out. Pitt might want to take note of that instead of what you guys find yourself saddled with in Narduzzzi.

It wasn't Pitt fans you doorknob. It was disgruntled Hoopies.
