This season of Top Chef All Stars featured chefs from various entries from the franchise from across the glove. A guilty pleasure I have to admit, I was blown away. For one, I like food. If I had loads of money, I would invest in food, and if I had to start over maybe I go the Chef route. I can cook. Better than most. Better than 90%, probably more even people who are paid for doing this profession. I know the notes. I can figure out things. Cooking to me is not throwing 10 things together and come back and having some one note (but good) meal. I don't do casseroles.

So I can do some cool things. I learned or read or somethings are intuitive. But watching this I figured out something that was reinforced. Like a good band, especially a good cover band, I can play the notes. I can play guitar, maybe even as good as say the original guitarist. I can do this stuff. The difference? Why I am not a "Top Chef" or some local band cover Zeppelin is not making millions doing it? I can't create. I lack the imagination and understanding of the craft to create recipes that just don't seem to make sense. They can. I am an U2 fan, I see so many bands, guitarists duplicate U2 or the Edge, but they can write the music. So it is never theirs.

I can make some amazing things taste great. But........they are covers or repeats for the most part. It was weird coming to that conclusion watching Top Chef. I mean some chick made an amazing dessert, out of peas! Green peas!!! A cake. That would have never come to me. Peas!!!
