This has to be one of the biggest upsets in recent WPIAL memory. Can anyone think of a bigger one. Upsets in local HS football just dont happen due to the large talent discrepancies. This one is really surprising.
PR over CC was a massive upset. NA dominated PR the week before and CC beat NA by 28 a few weeks ago. PR was 3-3 coming into the game. This has to be one of the biggest upsets in recent WPIAL memory. Considering we got boatraced by NA last week who had gotten whooped by Central yes. We fully expected to leave in the 3rd quarter from a Central drubbing. Lehmeier was completely out coachedIs it? I dont know but they won 5A states last year or the year before. Are they 6A now? PR is a strong program. Trinity is historically one of the worst. I cant think of a bigger upset than Trinity beating TJ. You just don't see that.
The 6 class system hurt TJ. Tougher at the top . But they had cake for years.
Brownsville was good in the late 90's when Will Petersen was there. They went to the WPIAL finals at Three Rivers Stadium.TJ beat Connellsville 61-0? I realize Connellsville isnt traditionally strong but I remember 20 years ago they were the #1 seed in Quad A and had Marcus Furman. I think at that time, they were one of the largest schools in the WPIAL. I think around the same time, Brownsville was really good in AAA and Uniontown had some good AAA teams with that McLee LB who played at WVU. These schools have all lost population but you would think in moving down, they'd be competitive. Connellsville went from a decent 4A school in the 4A system to a really bad 4A school in the 6 class system. Brownsville went from a good 3A program to a 2A program who has to drop out of the WPIAL. Uniontown from 3A to having to drop out of 3A

Uniontown definitely had their most stacked roster in 2001. Was ranked #1 in the state. Beat TJ 21 - 0 at home in a revenge game from the 2000 playoff loss, our first playoff game in forever. We were a high seed in the WPIAL in the 2001 playoffs, but unfortunately lost to Hampton (I think). Felt like a curse we'd never get out of the first round.
Connellsville always has the biggest enrollment numbers here in Fayette County, but never have the best teams. Or even a good team most of the time.
I've always wondered why Uniontown and Laurel Highlands never just simply combine districts. As well as Albert Gallatin and Brownsville.
Basketball is always competitive but Football will definitely benefit through district realignments.
Bell Vernon and Thomas Jefferson would become classic Friday Night Rivalry games if we'd just combine. Down here at least. It'll be like the battle for the South Route 51 crown.
And better education with combined school tax budgets. 🤔
The layout is weird. Best way I can say.Im not aware of the Uniontown/LH history but a merger seems unlikely. Ever see a school district map? Downtown Uniontown (which is in USD) is a small area completely surrounded by LH. Then Uniontown SD is the mountains down to Maryland. Being that LH is new, my guess is it was born out of racism like TJ.
