OT - Turgeon out at Maryland

Woooah. Turgeon is a really good coach and recruiter. He just moved right to the top of the SMF Wish List with Miller and Pitino. And he's "realistic" at this point.

He will land a better job than Pitt. Nobody with a good career record would come to Pitt. Only some young guy who has an ego that says I can fix anything.

Correction: ANYBODY will come to Pitt if the price was right.

I forgot Turgeon is a good friend of Stallings so maybe that turns him off.

I was expecting you to be the first one to post. I don’t think you’ll get any pushback on this one. Whether he’d come here is another matter.

I will say it again. I hate when people say this. Please say, "I don't think he'd come here for what Pitt was willing to pay." Anyone will come here for the right price. If Turgeon wanted $6/$7 million, we wont pay that. Would he take it for 5? Would we go that high?

I don’t know that five would be overpaying for a guy like that.

How much does he get paid now? And how much have we proven we are willing to pay?

Me neither. I watched Capel's midweek presser and I really feel bad for the guy. He detailed the guy's he's missing. 24 PPG he said. He was definitely hit with some bad luck here but his biggest problem right now is that his 2021 class was maybe the worst in P6 and he doesn't have a 2022 class. If he had a strong 2022 class lined up, I think a lot of us would say, give him another year with the big-time FR coming in plus Horton and Sibande back plus Hugley and Femi. But his recruiting has just been so bad. Even the highly touted guys like Jeffress and Collier haven't worked out.

$3.4 million per year is what he was making. I think $5 million is reasonable to get a coach of his quality.
I assumed he would be making a bit more but given the circumstances I don’t think it’s nuts to offer 5. That’s a nice bump.

And by the way when i mention coming here I mean in the context of someone like him having better options. But maybe 5 would get it done.

Does Turgeon have a reputation for buying players?

ESPN article said he just signed an extension in April. This is strange. There’s gotta be some kind of story coming. Looks like they’re off to a slow start but this just feels odd.

Hmmm. Maybe nothing crazy afoot.

“But as Stadium’s Jeff Goodman reported, “Administration wanted to go in a different direction and Mark Turgeon worn down by the job and fan base.”

It does but who cares. I dont care if the NCAA is investigating or he cheated on his wife with a sorority girl. None of that matters.

We all know not much matters to you. You’d probably hire a convicted murderer. But it does matter to some people.

There’s no doubt in my mind that had you been a PSU fan you’d be one of the cult members still defending Paterno.

24 PPG for two guys that combined for 16 last year is some wild, Dukie math

Eff no. I care about real, actual crimes. Paterno is an actual slimeball. A horrible person. Pitino, Miller, Wade paying players or Oats cheating on his wife, ok, maybe not the best of people but they aren't criminals and they win.

I'll take anyone who wins who isn't an actual criminal or who doesn't enable or cover-up child rape.

Yeah so maybe as a Pitt fan I’m not real excited about trying to get this guy? Who knows the reason for dismissal but it’s likely not good …..at all
