OT: UNLV Excited to Share Stadium

As a result of this move, UNLV just landed 15 five star recruits and have been penciled in for the 2020 college football playoff.

Why are they building their own practice facility and not sharing with the Raiders?

Also, I wonder if the Raiders will allow that UNLV logo and those proposed UNLV end zone designs (of course they will)?

I have no idea how big unlv's fan base is but I have always thought with them being in Vegas that with the right commitment they could be a P5 school.
Hmm, never thought that cities with a transient population with folks not originally "from there" was a classic P5 college football business model. Hoops is one thing but filling up 60,000 for a college football game is another.

in the end....what posters on this board think about HF is almost irrelevant.

What recruits think about HF however....is top of the list critical.

I get the sense that big time recruits....with a chance to play in that state of the art stadium....in Vegas.....will want to go to UNLV.

I agree with Revamped......this could put UNLV in play for P5 status.

So you think recruits are enamored with 25,000 empty yellow seats? I think given the choice between the glitz and glamour of Vegas or Hickville Tuscaloosa (or for that matter Knoxville or Starkville Miss) within the realm of college football they are not going with Vegas.

Only if UNLV is willing to pay recruits in casino chips.

as opposed to the glitz of South beach?

Seems to me they keep bringing in great players every year?

Hah. So ignorant.

You called SEC cities "Hickvilles".

Oh, thanks. However, it was not ignorant (when making a comparison with Vegas---at least in a hick/non-hick resident ratio) just insensitive to the sensitive...Sorry.

I'd be excited to share a stadium too if it wasn't built on the cheap side. This is going to be one of the nicest facilities in the country.

Nope, not really. BTW, I'm not sensitive about it. It just shines light on the ignorant and arrogant.

again with the "ignorant"...Sound like Mr. Jefferson on South Park. gotta get ya a dictionary. Arrogant? ok I'll give you that one.

Actually the logo thing was an issue when lease terms were first proposed, the Raiders were initially resistant to having the UNLV logo on the field.

Was somewhat of a public outcry over it and the Raiders backed down relatively quickly.

You are ignorant, if you think that about SEC college towns are somehow less educated or lower class than Las Vegas, which is a city and in a state with a big education and expertise problem, which is really hurting their economy. You probably aren't real familiar with either side.

Sorry you have a problem with me twice using the word "ignorant" when it perfectly describes you in this exchange. I guess I should have called you uneducated or fallacious or misguided the second time.

I'm curious, if you know what are the terms of the deal?

yep, lots of empty seats there too...just in the state of Florida though.

HOWEVER.......

prostitution is legal in Vegas. Gives new meaning to "recruiting visits".....haha

What an advantage they will have. Miami gets nailed for hookers on private yachts.......UNLV will have 4 hookers in every recruits hotel room.

No, it isn't. You have to drive about 90 minutes north (so I'm told) to reach the closest brothel's. Not saying it doesn't exist but it's no more legal there than in Oakland.

I honestly don't believe that high school kids are obsessed with the empty seats like the people on this board.
College football attendance is down across the land, so empty seats are becoming common. Starting from a lower base, Pitt's attendance is on the increase, while others are worried about attendance declining.

Just a guess, but I think it depends upon the player.
For a kid who grows up wanting to play for Pitt, empty seats likely aren't noticed. He's seen it all before.
For a kid who's best offer is Pitt and his other offers are MAC level schools, the empty seats won't mean much. The chance to play at a higher level will win him over.
But for the kid with offers from Pitt and schools like OSU, Michigan, ND, PSU, Tennessee, those empty seats and the difference in game atmosphere from those other stadium has to be noticed. And there is no way it gives any positive edge to Pitt.

myth of all time. prostitution is not legal here in Clark County. it is legal in a few select counties in NV. it does still happen here in lv, but is not legal. the strip clubs are also very tight compared to other cities but the talent is strong.lol

Any opinion on property values moving forward around the stadium area? Have heard people discussing this all week, IMO will have very little effect. Im about 10 miles away and my main concern is congestion while the infrastructure is being completed.

Construction goes up so fast in Las Vegas I'm sure the stadium will be ready, but have my doubts about the roads.

Yinzers take pride in not needing comfort. And bragging they are just there purely for the game itself and not caring if it's nice or not.

Then how was The U so strong for years? Let's ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING that they did

Don't get me wrong, Heinz is nice. It's served its purpose and then some. But when you stack it up against some of the other NFL stadiums built in the early 2000's... Heinz is just fine though.

I'm just saying, The Rooneys knew they could get away with poor, cheap amenities because Yinzers would feel like complaining about comfort or lack of niceties is for wusses.

Actually, Yinzers take pride in NEEDING comfort. How many times have visiting stadiums been called "dumps" because they have *gasp* bleachers? Yeah, that's why they're college stadiums.

2 different situations.

UNLV currently plays in a tiny dump 8 miles from campus.

They will be playing closer to campus in possibly the world's nicest stadium.

For UNLV, this is massive. It may be bigger to them than the Raiders. If I am the Pac 12, I take them and San Diego State tomorrow. The loss of the Chargers makes the Aztecs the ONLY football team in a very populated city.

Difference between an NFL Stadium and an erector set dump like Beaver Stadium for fan viewing and amenities.

The new Las Vegas 65,000 seat NFL Stadium is projected to cost $1.9 Billion dollars.

Tarping Heinz Stadium to 55,000 seats is what Pitt should do.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

So should UNLV order the tarps now? They aren't getting 65000 fans for the Runnin' Rebs.

UNLV's current stadium, in the vegas suburbs, anyone know anything about it? As far as, is it a nice venue to see a game? Or are they just really excited to finally dump that stadium? Regardless I don't think the Las Vegas raiders, the first NFL team in sin city, are gonna get anything less than a top of the art world class stadium.
