Hey Lair,

I'm heading to Vegas first week of March for the college hoops conference tournament weekend, I wanted to get some insight on favorite sportsbooks out there.

Went last year and really liked The Mirage and surprisingly Excalibur had a good book (ie. lots of TVs, seating, etc.).

Anybody have any favorites, maybe ones even slightly off the Strip.

Thanks and H2P!

Wynn and Venetian pretty much the gold standard, Caesars still decent but has slipped a little. Bally's still has their stadium type seating book, a little oldish but not bad.

Westgate will be jammed and have lots of action. They have a separate no smoking room as well. Biggest downside is the area is pretty crappy.

Off Strip the Southpoint is a solid book, separate rooms for race and sports. I will be in and out of the Red Rock book all 4 days, it's a helluva place to watch the tournament. May not suit your purposes as it's about 10-12 miles from the Strip.

-Everyone's different, but Mirage all day for sports. But since you already were there, you may be looking for something different to try. Red Rock is nice.

Westgate is my favorite out there. Shouldn't be too bad during conference championship weekend. NCAA 1st weekend is crazy. You can check out a couple conference tournaments in person. Mountain West is held at the Thomas and Mack Center and Pac 12 is held by the MGM. Went to both finals the same day last year. Not sure you can go wrong. Lots of fun. Make some good bets. I'm jealous.

Actually the PAC 12 has shifted over to the new T Mobile arena starting this year. I plan on ditching work and going to the Thursday afternoon session.

For anyone in town the week before that the WCC holds their tournament in the much more intimate Orleans arena. Always loud crowds to see Gonzaga, St Mary's and BYU.

Hands down best place to go to watch the games is Southpoint. Been to many places on the strip, none come close to Southpoint.

Thanks for the notes. I'm getting out there Wednesday afternoon and plan to hit the first afternoon session of the PAC 12 in person after making some bets on the games. Love it out there during that time!

If you come to Vegas often for big events like the tournament or Super Bowl you may want to look into opening up a mobile account or two just to avoid the inevitable lengthy lines at the window.

They only work inside the state of Nevada but if you're here a lot it can really be worth it. Most can be funded for only $50 and obviously you have the advantage of being able to line shop while sitting in your seat.

The first 4 days of the tournament are a lunatic asylum at the books, nothing sucks more than getting shut out while being stuck behind some idiot asking how a money line works.

Stadium seating sounds pretty cool, might have to swing by and check that out. We all have our favorite books but it's cool to check some different ones out. The conference tourney weekend isn't quite as chaotic as the next weekend from what I hear!

I've always been partial to the M Resort... but on the strip it is Caesar's or New York, New York.

I live here in l.v. Westgate posts the most aggressive money lines as they do not shy away from any game. you will find the most options on lines there.

it's incredible for cfb. they even do props of. big games that aren't the s.b. there are better places to watch the games but choice of lines is second to none. they typically set the lines that a majority of books follow.

Jay was whining on local radio today that the way things were going they would have to stop providing free pens and switch to golf pencils instead.

Actually I think William Hill probably has the most betting options in town now, will boot you if you have a clue though. The M would take just about anything for years, wiseguy or not, but that's changed since Colbert's departure. They still take any amount from squares though, Mayweather can bet 800k on a game and the line won't move. Shocking when they're holding almost 15% on his plays.

it's funny you say that because I actually go to the William Hill by my house. I take them over stations and Boyd. better money lines. the w.h. boards are so tiny in the burbs. I need to get to a bigger w.h to see what you are speaking of.

about 4 years ago, Jay was complaining about 50 cent hotdog special in the NFL room because of $5 bettors coming in.lol

I've pretty much fully converted to using the phone apps only. I do a lot of in game betting and stuff with futures/props and going from shop to shop isn't really viable for that anymore.

Limits are lower on the apps, but that rarely affects me. More annoying is the waiting for approval in game and them coming back and saying bet is declined because the line has moved.

For anyone involved in scalping or going for middles it's a must though. I have my 5 accounts all next to each other on my phone and am watching them all day. It's hurt the ticket writers though, you see a lot of these local books nearly empty because everyone is betting on their phones.
