OT- Walking Dead

I wasn't really impressed with the way it was done...seemed like the cliffhanger was useless as they offed the one guy everyone expected them to kill. Seems like they would have been better off to have killed Glenn at the end of last season. Abraham's death seemed kind of useless as it played out, though I know his time to go on the show was past due.

The season should be a good one w/ Negan's presence in all/most episodes. I actually like Negan...he lightens up the mood of the show a little, aside from the head bashing and whatnot. I assume we go into the regular Rick cycle...he was the good leader last season, now he will become morose and despondent for a long time, followed by a burst of rage/insanity that will probably culminate in some sort of showdown w/ Negan.

Totally digressing here, but there is a new Netflix show premiering in January called "Mindhunter". It is set in the 70's and based on the real life FBI Elite Crime Unit. It is being filmed in Pittsburgh. Most importantly this is the baby of and is being produced by David Fincher. I know a couple of people who were involved during the filming here and word is this is going to be very, very good. Plus I'm looking forward to perhaps spotting some of my parents clothes that I sold to a consignment store in the Southside that is furnishing them with a lot of their clothes. My father especially had some really sweet 70's threads. :)

I read a lot of comments on a few websites, where people think that the violence in this episode with Negan bashing in the heads of Abe & Glenn(was that Negan's idea of playing a 'Double Header' with his Bat-Lucille?) was too much, and they refuse to watch the show any longer. So these people did not think that the Governor slicing off Hershel's Head in front of his own daughter, was not too violent for them to stop watching the show? Or Carol having to see her own daughter get killed after it was revealed that she was a Walker, when coming out of the barn? And all of the violent scenes with the Walkers tearing into people?(it is a zombie show after all). Not sure why last night's Season #7 opening episode all of the sudden was now too violent for the same people, who watched the earlier seasons and those scenes I mentioned(and there were other violent scenes).

Outside of Negan killing Rick or Daryl(being Rick's Right Hand Man or Michonne(being Rick's Right Hand Woman)-as Negan told Rick, "it is important to have a good Right Hand Man", or possibly killing Carl being Rick's son, I just was not that devastated by the deaths of Abe and Glenn, as figured Glenn was already living on borrowed time with the stupid Fake Out of his death from a prior season, and Abe's death while tough to watch, is not like I will miss his character much in future seasons, as long as the other characters are developed(and there are way too many characters on this show anyways, as tough to get enough screen time for some of those characters to care more about them).

Ultimately, the Showrunners chickened out to make a really daring, devastating & 'punch to the gut' episode. Maggie being pregnant, was most likely off limits to even a guy as evil as Negan(as he has rules) to kill. Maybe Maggie will be the person to rise up and take revenge on Negan in a future Season. Although, I think it will be Daryl, if he can recover physically over time.

At least this show is better than the bloated, 'Fear The Walking Dead'.

I prefer 'The Strain', as at least that show has some scary moments(and if forced to live in a world where a virus turns people into the Undead, I would take my chances with Zombies over those Vampires in 'The Strain').

I hope it's not like past Walking Dead premieres where the following two episodes are slow and boring. Jeffrey Dean Morgan looks like he's going to be a breath of fresh air for the show. I already hate his right-hand man, whose name escapes me.

I enjoy graphic, senseless violence, if the apocalypse really happened, the minute I knew there was no police or jails, I'd start killing people and taking their stuff, LOL!

Their goal should be to kill Negan, #2 man seems like a dufus.

Negan has been such a great character so far. I think he's going to be a Ramsay Bolton-level bad guy. People are going to hate him and his death will be incredibly cathartic.

His lieutenant is Steven Ogg. His character is named Simon. Fun fact, he was Trevor Phillips in Grand Theft Auto V and is also on Westworld. He's a very, very good actor.

FWIW - I don't have a big problem with graphic violence, but the unrelenting doom, gloom and sadness of this show did me in 2 years ago. I hung in there as long as I could. It just got to be too much for me. JMO.

It's really weird to me that the show is into its seventh season and people are surprised by how things go down when it's based off of a comic book that is a couple of seasons ahead of the show. I know it's not completely linear but in my mind, it was a no-brainer, ahem, that Glenn and Abraham were getting killed.

If you don't like violence or the gloom and doom, don't watch post apocalyptic zombie shows. Really not sure what people expect. I actually think they keep it pretty calm all things considered.

I just wish people were not so damn stupid in the post apocalyptic zombie world. How the hell hard could it have been for Rick and the gang to find and island or some high rise in Atlanta to set up shop or better yet just find another freaking prison...How hard can it be to find a luxury boat on a lake somewhere! Geez, Bill Cardille had no problems getting by back in the sixties doing man on the street interviews during said zombie ascension.

You'd think so but I have little evidence to offer to refute that other than to offer that nobody wants to watch the world run well in a TV show after society falls flat on its face.

I have been watching the show for about 3 years now, I've caught up with all the early seasons, and I never know what's going to happen, because I don't read the comic books or the online stuff.

Then it would be boring, if they where living on an island, with no zombies, making machines out of coconuts like the Professor on Gilligan's Island!

After the prison was destroyed the group should have gone back to Hershel's farm. That was a great set up and the herd would have been long gone from there. But what fun would that have been for the show's writers?

please do not use the "C" word you uncouth troglodyte. I believe you meant to say "I never know what's going to happen, because I don't read the graphic novels "

I have no problem with graphic violence if it works well within the story such as on my 2nd Favorite TV Show, 'Sons of Anarchy' in the 5th Season where Jax had to watch from behind the windowed wall, his Childhood Friend, Opie, get beat to death in Prison, when Opie stepped up(by attacking the Prison Guard) to sacrifice himself instead of making Jax pick a member of his own MC to be sacrificed, was way more depressing, devastating and emotional to me, as the character development of that show was much better overall(Although, I do think that the acting and character development of Rick is very good, along with Carol on 'TWD'), so I found myself really caring about all members of SAMCRO(despite being the Anti-Heroes) and that devastating scene, and was just as brutal as the deaths of Abe & Glenn(with the exception of the loose eyeball coming out of Glenn's head, but then again this is a Zombie show, so you see a lot of graphic body parts in past episodes).

And also on 'SOA', Tig's daughter being burned alive in front of him at the start of that same season(#5) was just as devastating(and great acting performance during that scene by Kim Coates, who played Tig). Now 'SOA' did get too brutally violent just for the sake of violence by Seasons #6 & #7, as in most cases, was not necessary to be part of a scene nor essential to the plot. 'SOA' still is my 2nd favorite TV show(after 'Breaking Bad'), but should have ended by 6 Seasons(the final few episodes of the Final 7th Season were strong, although predictable, as I had figured out ahead of time what was going to happen to Jax in the end).

Well I'm not surprised what the show is about, but it just got to be too much for me.

Just watch last night. Holy hell was this episode brutal.

After not seeing the main characters for the summer, then coming back to see them both (Glenn and Abraham) bludgeoned like that was just sickening. Wow did I feel for Maggie..... (I don't follow the graphic novels) And for me its crossed the line, there is no hope in this $h!t world. I'll be glad when its over when Rick wakes up from his nightmare dream in the hospital. And why do zombies live on for months and months??

And why do zombies live on for months and months??

This is the question I always ask, lol. At some point they decompose to nothing and the survivors start to piece things back together. Its not like there is some huge unseen source for new zombies. I know...its a show about zombies so reality isn't really in play.

Everyone alive has the virus that turns them into a zombie when they die, so the zombies would be endless, though in smaller numbers.
