I saw Willie perform a few years ago, a few months before COVID. His voice was okay….he carried a tune and still sounded like “Old Willie”.

His guitar-playing was hideous. Not bad…hideous. It was painful; I was uncomfortable listening to it.

What made it worse was that the guy running the sound board had his guitar amp set to a much higher volume than normal, so we got to hear every bad note and every missed chord. He sounded like a ten-year old, after their first guitar lesson.

Considering that Willie’s son Lukas plays in the band, he should do his dad a favor (protecting his legacy) and turn Willie’s sound down.

Were you sitting near this long-time Willie Nelson fan who was bogarting that joint?

Never got the Willie Nelson thing. Always liked his outlaw friends better: Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, even Kristofferson (though he sings about as well as Bob Dylan).

After a certain point, people go to concerts by Willie, Dylan, the Stones, etc to say they’ve been to them, plus for nostalgia. He launches “On the Road Again” and those attending flash back to the point in their lives (or their parents lives) when this song was a hit and the times he was performing it at his peak. It goes for how he looks as well. They know the quality of the product they are going to get at this point and age of these guys. But most barely “see” and “hear” what they’re attending; by being there, their minds have taken them to an entirely different place and time.
