Ouch!

Though I disagree with madden on Narduzzi, I certainly believe
the day they tore down Pitt Stadium was the day any hope of a true
resurgence/resurrection to the glory days ended.

None of the elite/top 15 head coach’s in America would take
this job because of these built in limitations and perceptions
of the program. That’s why pitt always has to hire the hot
assistant hoping they hit paydirt.

They were never getting a p5 stud hC unless they had baggage and then they wouldn't hire them. But they could have and probably still could get a guy like mendenhall or Fuentes, ie a hot mac level coach. They have been unwilling to spend the money other than Graham and that was only after the embarrassment of haymaker. They had Graham in before hiring haymaker and wouldn't pay what it required so the hired haymaker. So yes they have been cheap. I have long said they are better off staying at Heinz and investing in the coaches than spending it on a stadium

Money is a great equalizer in hiring a coach. Pitt will have to over pay for the caliber of coach they really need. They better wake up, smell the roses and get prepared .... otherwise they’re in for another 40 years of mediocrity

We’re spending way more on the sports programs than we ever have under Gallagher. The problem is it hasn’t really changed the results. If Nordy had supported Walt or Wanny the way Narduzzi is we’d probably be talking about a different history.

Madden is dead wrong about the on campus stadium and statistics prove it. He constantly claimshow much he doesn’t care about Pitt football and how much he hates Narduzzi. So in my opinion he should stick to the Steelers, the Penguins and English football.
That clueless lard wouldn’t have said a word if we won the game. He just likes to pile on.

There is a reason he does not like our head coach... HCPN called him out..
madden is garbage and tries to be a bully with his loud mouth...

Sissy mark, I know you read the Pantherlair.. remember how you backed your fat arse in the corner when you where called out on the Southside... the wizard of oz should have cast you for the cowardly lion.

Though I understand your point,

That works only in theory. Top flight coaches are not going to come
here even if you overpay. Pitt is similar to the pirates. The best managers
or general managers wouldn’t come here even if you paid them 30-50%
above market value given that Pitt is the only decen p5 player without
an on campus stadium and limited donators. That would be like Nutting
Paying Theo Espstíne his cubs salary plus 4 million a year additional.
Operating under nuttings limited resources wouldn’t entice him to come here.

Pitt has zero identity playing where it is and any coach coming in here
has to deal with the tarp issue, being the Steelers little brother, etc that
NO OTHER college has to deal with. God bless any Pitt coach

While he had some shortcomings and definitely could have supported more, he took one of the worst programs in the mid 90s and got them into a power 5 conference. He understood.

Nordenberg SUCKS. He was a terrible Chancellor who tried to kill Pitt football. He hired the worst AD in history TWICE.

“Pitt Football Long on EXCUSES, short on fixes” would have be a little better headline.

Recruit better
Coach better.
Results will be better.

And hired Steve after watching him destroy a Nebraska program that was Averaging 10 wins a season and humming nationally.

2nd hiring of Pederson was bad. First round, the rebranding sucked but he did turn around 2 absolutely horrible programs.

Good point. He did select my fav coach Walt, but if I remember
correctly, I believe Walt ended up being the 3rd or 4th choice.
I can’t remember the 2 or 3 coaches who declined. I think
it was richt... and a couple others

Nonetheless, you read my mind. I was about to mention in my
other post the dinocat rebranding, But didn’t. You are very
correct about that...good points

He understoood? His role in Pitt'sa admission to the ACC is far outweighed by the damage he and Pederson together caused to the Fb program.
And rehired Steve after watching him destroy a Nebraska program that was Averaging 10 wins a season and humming nationally.
And then gave him a golden parachute as he retired....I think they call that malfesance.

Place a stadium on dan Marino field overlooking the river and south side. Have it hold 40-50 thousand people. Have an exit off Bates and an exit off Forbes. It will have a view of he cathedral and upper deck can see river

My spot was always on the Blvd of allies where that car dealership sat vacant for years. Perfect location, right on a major access road. That building has since been redeveloped so that is off the table. Upper campus? Get the VA out, they can move to West Penn, too many beds in that corridor anyway, West Penn would be better suited as a VA. That's a big footprint that would be perfect for a stadium. Tear down the field house and build a massive garage. Bingo, problem solved.

It’s about getting on and out of Oakland. It would be cool to see a gigantic PITT script from the south side overlooking the river.

My second location is the old south side hospital that is UPMC office space.

My third location would be accessed from Birmingham bridge. It would be in the hill district bordering river looking over bridge

Sounds like you got a nice story to share.

yeah location three would be good. that area is in pretty sad shape, as witnessed by that recent fire that destroyed a building. Could use some massive redevelopment there.

South Side....it is hard enough getting out of Cupples for a high school game, scratch that.

He did

You have to consider the investment relative to the market at the time.

Pitt is investing no more now than before

In 2011 Pitt spent $19.8 mil of $22 mil revenue-which put it about 20th nationally per player and game day expenses.

Pitt in 2018 spent $27.1mil of $36.5 revenue -

Our player and game day expenses per player ranking is much lower comparatively.

Frankly- the only reason why football even got off the mat in the late 90s was because nordrnberg literally deficit spent on football to breathe life back into the program.

It actually lost money for years

To have the team some of you still dream possible a new stadium would need to be built in Georgia or perhaps Mississippi. Yep. Move the whole school south.
