After hearing Jamie's comments, our start actually validated his thinking about focusing on defense. Had Wisconsin came out shooting well and taken a lead, Jamie likely would have to had to go to Luther sooner especially when Mike had to sit with 2 fouls. But the fact that it was a brutally defensive game and on which Pitt never trailed by more than a single point until the last minutes apparently never caused Jamie to readjust his thinking.
I am not excusing or agreeing with this - I would have played Luther much more and he would have been off the bench at the first sub opportunity. I am just saying that had it been Wisconsin taking the early 10-4 lead, Jamie would have had to rethink his defensive first approach.
But in the end, Jamie is still stuck in the type of mindset Cowher had prior to 2006. It wasn't until Cowher threw caution to the wind that he was able to win a Super Bowl. Jamie can't get there.
