I think this team looks better than most thought it would be before the year began. The defensive improvements are abundant and obvious. The staff has come in and put the guys in a position to be successful and they have bought in 100% and look pretty good thus far.
- Jordan Whitehead is as advertised. 16 tackles in his 3rd game man this kid could be a star.
- Maddox also looks really good and besides one series Saturday (He got pushed off on that long catch) I think Pitts has looked decent.
- The aggression on defense has been fun to watch with guys flying around just hitting everything that moves. And we actually have a decent pass rush which will only improve as the talent in the system improves.
On offense we can all agree they have some work to do but I think they have finally figured out who the QB is going to be moving forward and that should help if they stop this rotation they are doing and let one guy get into a rhythm.
- Missing JC is going to hurt more than we thought. Ollison and Hall are still pretty good but it’s a clear drop. Not sure what is going on with Chris James I really thought he would be getting more carries this week.
- Peterman seems like the clear cut #1 to me at this point. He has enough mobility to not be a sitting duck and just looks much more comfortable in the pocket.
- Boyd is a stud but we are really lacking at talent with are other WR’s but it seems like the coaches have realized this and are getting the TE’s into the mx more this could be a good development for this team./offense.
Not sure how many teams we play the rest of the way are worse than Iowa this year but even losing that game gave me some hope for this year and the program moving forward. The guys are playing hard and with a high energy level. I still think this team can get much better and the by week is coming at the perfect time. Come two weeks they should be even more comfortable in the new systems and hopefully all healed up. If Pitt can win 2 of the next 3 they will be in good position heading into the second half of the year. I know easier said then doen with VT and GT in the next 3 but Virginia is really down and we always play tough with VT.
