Oze uze the walk on got....

Sure, but he's still probably the best walk on in the 40+ years I've watched Pitt hoops, regardless of the fact that he's fallen into playing time.

Here's the list:

Onyebuchi Ezeakudo
Pat Cavanaugh
Brian Brush
Aron Nwanko
Griffen Able
Was Mahdi Sproul a walk on? I remember him starting a few games during one of the Willard years.

He was a walk on and he did start six games in 94-95 -- right in the middle of the Big East season. He came in an got a bunch of points and rebounds in a game and Willard kept playing him for a couple games. For the life of me, I can't recall why he was no longer on the team by year end.

Still, my memory of Sproul is that Eze is the overall better player, as Sproul was tough but not very talented. But that was a long, long time ago.

My son asked me if Max Amadusun was a walk-on. I said no and he asked why he doesn't play. I had to be very careful and "positive" in my explanation

I thought this was announced a couple weeks ago. Did something official just come out?

Just last week Capel was asked if they were going to put him on scholarship and he said something like that they were considering it, so it certainly wasn't a done deal until today.

Here's an article from this past Monday. The money quote is:

Capel said putting Ezeakudo on scholarship “could be something that we do.”

So it obviously hadn't been done or even decided as of last weekend.

Thanks--I thought I heard he was already on scholarship but obviously that was not the case.

I'm really happy for him, and
given his contriutions, he
deseves the scholarship.
Unfortunately the sad reality
is, this is where the program is
after four years.

I have to add this…it’s hilarious to me that Mr Jeff Capel is so happy for him because he’s “all about helping Pitt, he wants to help Pitt” …wouldn’t it be awesome if Jeff Capel could himself figure out “how to help Pitt” after 4 years of absolutely NO progress….that’d be pretty cool

Hope it’s retroactive to first semester .
There was no reason not to give him one with our open ships

Brush was the best walk on. Not even close.
Yes. He played minutes on an NCAA tourney team and did the dirty work needed. I met his brother, Blaise, a long time ago, and he was a good dude. I crossed paths with Brian at the 1993 Gus Macker and talked Pitt hoops with him for a few minutes.

Why? Why can't you tell your son he sucks, if in fact that is the truth.

Nwanko literally willed us to the tourney JD’s final season with his energy
He didn't need a scholarship from basketball, he had an academic full ride, he's was planning to go to med school or something I think.

Actually, Aron's did not play during Dixon's final season when we made the tourney. He graduated the year before when we made the NIT.

I'm not sure you can say he willed us to the NIT with his energy either. But you can say that he willed us to a win against Florida State when he played 12 minutes and scored 7 points.

I don't know, but I don't think its a good look for a grown man to tell his son that anyone sucks at anything....at least not until their a little older.

Yes -- you are probably right -- I may be guilty of a little recency bias with Eze. The best case for Brian is that he was a regular part of a 6 man frontcourt rotation by choice, but not because of injuries or shortages.

I like the truth. I just assume Max must suck, I've only seen him play once, he played like 30 seconds, but he did score a basket, But can he really be much worse than that guy Peace we had a few years back?

All those guys are about the same. Just really tall and can walk and chew gum at the same time so you offer them a ship as a lottery ticket. 1 out 10 hit but really they should be low D1 or D2, maybe even D3. Peace barely got off the bench for Evansville. Tyrone Haughton barely got off the bench for a D2 team so really he was more of a D3 player.
