Coach Capel and co. have offered 2022 Darren Buchanan, Jr. out of Wilson High School in DC. The 6'7", 225 lb. forward is a versatile prospect who plays to win. He ran with Team Durant this spring/summer, playing a vital role on their way to the Nike EYBL Peach Jam semifinals.

Im interested in seeing how his senior season plays out. He has a lot of "potential" but is limited scoring unless its around the basket.

His stats over the summer were also limited playing behind Team Durant's big 3 of Mintz, Rice, and Whitehead. He has major athletic ability, can really rebound on offense and defense, and plays defense with a large wingspan. His shooting leaves a lot to be desired right now both from the midrange and from 3. He does have a toughness to his game.

He has a lot of the same qualities as Audiese Toney when Toney played AAU coming into Pitt as Toney couldn't shoot at all either in AAU or his freshmen season. At 6'7 he easily can guard multiple positions 2-3-4. Coming off a 7ppg, 6.3 rebound per game, 44% FG, 3-1 assist to TO which is really strong for a wing as he has good ball control and doesn't make mistakes turning it over. He was the leading rebounder for Team Durant at only 20 minutes per game. His game is around the basket and dribble drive to the rim. I view him as a 3 / 4 tweener right now as he plays bigger than what he is. If he works on his shooting a lot like Toney did he can become a quality college player. Good upside.

And Virginia Tech may be offering soon as Rice is headed to Virginia Tech. They have been watching his open gyms.

What stood in the summer more than anything else was he played much bigger than his size. Early Toney is good comp, imo.
