6'2" athlete who was recruited as a safety.

@ChrisDokish: Tony Butler had at least 10 major college offers that I know of. Mostly from the Big 10. And ASU (ha ha).

@PittGuru: New commit Tony Butler is capable of playing both safety and corner in Pitt's defensive scheme. Butler has informed me he will be a safety.

Loved seeing every pitt coach tweet out their own version of the Pat Signal

I always am a little concerned when a non-local kid commits early without his parents being present, but Cleveland is pretty close and it would be great to establish a pipeline to St. Edwards, which is a perennial power in Ohio. I believe we had some commits from there under DW. Plus, it is always nice to get a commit from a recruit who had an offer from The Fraud.

It figures that the first verbal would be from someone no one had mentioned as a possibility for being the first.

Nof sure if it was Peak's free article but the kid said he had no plans on committing just yet but he liked it and it felt right. Long way to go until signing day but with what's been happening I feel cautiously (of course) optimistic about this new regime.

FYI, Butler's mom was with him and he said she is very happy with the commitment. This is based on direct quotes from the recruit himself from an article on a competing recruiting site today.

What I Liked to hear...

nice to land our first recruit, but what I really liked was reading that Narduzzi actually knows how to close the deal. Kid was getting ready to leave and Narduzzi convinces him that waiting is only going to add to the confusion. Pitt wants you, and you like the school. Done deal.

Contrast that with the approach of our last coach who probably would have sent him home with instructions to "think it over, look around more"

Way to go coach.

I think Coach Duzz and his staff are just getting started in bringing in good players from Ohio. Lots of good players a convenient distance from Pittsburgh and now Pitt has a really good shot at some of them.

Go Pitt.

Re: Welcome,Tony Butler!

captain keep up the good work. you're an asset to the site. ever think of starting your own blog ?

Re: Benchwarmer04, Yep & No!

I used to post far more on The Pigskin Post before they were sold, we had a great group of very smart people talking College Football. I used to post on PA Sports too but that went away as Penn State Tratur kept attacking the Website because it exposed the truth about the Penn State Program and Paterno.

I was asked to come over to Scout and given Premium Status if I would, but I just like the way rivals is formatted, but there are many great Posters on Scout and I respect them very much. Very seldom go there now since Scout updated their Websites and have made them difficult to navigate. Scout has gotten too fancy and the complexity of tons of information is just too much and they lack the insight of simplicity.

I did propose a website to some Sports Lawyers where one could talk about the Business of Sports, and someone set that up now and most likely no relation to my idea.

This is a hobby of mine nothing more, and I only talk about subjects I follow and I am following less every year. Consequently, I defer to the better Posters on the Lair that provide details I do not know or pretend to know.

I like Rivals and the Posters on the Lair and the ease of use and ease of looking up information on the website, but as I grow older I am reminded of Einstein's Quote and I paraphrase, that he now knows how much he does not know and that is growing bigger every day.

I post links so others can use them to think, agree and disagree with thoughtful opinions to share without demeaning others in a way, but when necessary, can match that if I desire too. I am looking to post less and read more, and my subject circle is quite small now.

Thank you and you keep posting as well, we all have a say on anything and we all learn that way!

Actually, I remember Todd Graham employed (or at least claimed to employ) the same style.

I would say it depends on the kid. If it came off to me as a pressure line, it would probably ensure that I wouldn't commit to that coach.

As for worrying about the early commit, the question is, does he view Pitt as head and shoulders above every other school that offered, and is there a dream school (Ohio State?) that hasn't offered yet.

Re: What I Liked to hear...

Just keep in mind that Michigan State has made a very nice living off those Ohio boys who really wanted that OSU offer that never came.

I can't say this enough-I hope Duzzi tries to copy Dantonio amd the MSU model as closely as possible. It worked there, it can work here.

I was a little disappointed that he didmt bring a couple of their coaches with him, but that's the deal he made with Dantonio and I respect it.

He ended up with a pretty darn good staff

I am really impressed with this staff - diverse, but accomplished, they all seem to have some personality or character, good energy.

Seems like a pretty darn good staff.

Agree on the MSU model, and he makes no bones about working to replicate it.

Re: What I Liked to hear...

Ohio State currently has 7 commits and 4 of them are from Ohio. Last year, out of their 27 recruits, only 12 were from Ohio (none from PA). The previous year it was 23 recruits with 9 from Ohio and Malik Hooker from PA.

With their national recruiting, Ohio State does not have room for a lot of good Ohio players, presenting a good opportunity for Coach Duzz and his staff...

Go Pitt.
