I wanted to get a recruiting thread started on here for the Peach Jam Finals with other recruiting information included.

Mintz will be coming on soon. He is likely going to be matched up against Shaedon Sharpe, who rivals analyst Jamie Shaw said this morning is the frontrunner for the new #1 player in the country for rivals rankings. Sharpe is a big time scorer and likely headed to Kentucky. This is a primetime matchup for Mintz.

Dominick Barlow's offer sheet continues to expand as each day passes. Offers from Miami, Depaul, USC, Xavier, Virginia Tech, Illinois, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Providence, with new interest from Kansas. If his play continues this week as it did the prior week, that offer sheet will further expand. If you were wondering how high his national ranking could climb, 247 ran an article last night suggesting he was a top 3 most underrated player at the EYBL and should have been ranked in the last rankings back in June. A big bump is coming, he is Top 100 caliber.

Im going to further watch Matt Filipowski of the NY Rens this week who's been raking in midmajor offers but not at the Power 6 level. That could change with a strong week. His 2 power 6 offers are Pitt and Illinois. Rick Pitino recently offered.

As I mentioned yesterday in another thread, we have pushed for Bronxville New York's Chisom Okpara to visit. He also plays on the NY Rens with Dominick Barlow and Matt Filipowski. We have been on the shorter side of his list, but Ill repeat he is also strongly looking at the academic route as he already visited Harvard and is looking at Yale among others. We may get a visit after the peach jam.

If you are not familiar with Ryan Dunn yet of the New York Jayhawks, now is the time to get familiar. With offers in the last 2 weeks from Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Marquette, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, Cal, Rick Pitino and a number of others, he is one of the hottest prospects rising with his play. And he has produced with stats to back up the hype.

Im currently watching team melo with Bryce Lindsay vs undefeated meanstreets. Lindsay is having a much better game so far than he did the prior 2 games where he was previously benched with 0 points. He has been highly inconsistent in this tournament, maybe the most inconsistent player in the entire tournament. He is very dependent on his 3 point shot. Without it, he becomes quite average. I would monitor him while recruiting better more consistent players. Kam Craft, Xavier commit, can really play.

What channel or site is the game on?

At the half Mintz has 16 points on 7-11 shooting 2-3 from 3, 1 rebound, 2 assists, 5 steals, and 1 TO. He picked Rivals.com future #1 players pocket twice on defense. Although, Mintz was not matched up against Sharpe the entire game in the 1st half. Mintz was the most dominant player on the floor, again, for either team, in the first half. Statement performance, Durant leads by 10 at the break.

Team Durant wins in a blowout 89-71

Judah the Jedi's game today was again in MINTz condition, as Mintz finished with 27 points, 2 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals, and 1 turnover. Mintz was 11-16 from the field, 2-3 from 3, and 3-3 from the line. Mintz led all scorers for either team, again.

Rivals.com future #1 player, who was guarded by Whitehead and Mintz for a decent chunk of the game, finished 6-16 on the day with 16 points. Mintz stole the ball off him, twice.

Major statement made

I wouldn’t mind a couple guys from Team Durant. Mintz is a baller.

Whitehead is a legit 5 star player that will be in the NBA. He has been strong this tournament but he doesn't always have the light switch on and sometime makes poor decisions. When he turns it on however, he turns it ON, on both ends and takes the entire game over. He is a major, MAJOR piece of talent when he decides to turn it on. and often times he does.

Rice is a legit Top 50-75 4 star player who can really shoot. I would NOT trade Mintz for him straight up.

Crawley is a player we have recruited but is raw. He is a fall back option.

Durant is going to be extremely tough to beat this tournament because of Whitehead, Mintz, and Rice. They are dominating teams.

What energy on this kid.
And i turned on the part of the hand where he started facilitating.
I don't know how to even describe his game except to say that he's good.

Anyone playing right now and which court?

The NY Rens already played. Barlow had 15 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds in a 10 point win. I didn't get to watch this one because Team Durant was on, but Barlow's stock is going up. Matt Filipowki had 8pts and 4 boards in only 11 min. for the Rens, Okpara scratched again.

Some night games if you want to watch some guys are the NY Lightning at 8PM vs NJ Scholars and All Ohio Red at 8PM who is in the consolation bracket. The Lightning feature Pitt targets Jaquan Sanders, Sadiku Ayo, and Silas Sunday. Ohio Red has shifty PG Sean Jones. Durant U16's already played with Rodney Gallagher, Amani Hansberry, and Jahnathan Lamothe. Shawn Phillips plays for Bates who is on tonight at 8. Fray Nguibimi plays for the NJ Scholars who faces the NY Lightning. So that is an opportunity to watch multiple Pitt targets in 1 game. I should also be talking about Jonathan Beagle more who we offered a few months back. He plays for city rocks NY and has had a pretty good tournament at 10 / 5. He's a 6'10 forward. City Rocks already played today and this was Beagles worst game although their star pg did not play in the game. Beagle is from New York and is a bigger target.

Great to see him blowing up just hope it not so much that all the Bluebloods and G League come calling and we lose the commitment.

He's not "that" good for that type of jump. If he decommitted today, he would have offers from schools like Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, etc.. Not Duke, Kentucky, etc.. unless they missed on their top targets. He isn't good enough for G league or the 5 star factory schools and that's not taking anything away from him as he has easily been one of the most impressive and dominant players in this tournament and he has been matching up against 5 star players most games.

Mintz still needs to work on his 3 point shooting more than anything. You are reading a small sample size of numbers showing he's a better 3 point shooter than what he is for now. Where people are getting it wrong meaning the scouts and such, is that Mintz's midrange game is absolutely lethal. He is killing player after player game after game in transition, the dribble drive penetration to the paint, and midrange. His arsenal of footwork is insanely underrated with respect to getting guys to bite on defense which is getting him separation at will, and with that separation, he is repeatedly making defenders pay the price and scoring at will.

We have a really good one and the commitment is solid imho. Without sounding like a broken record, get Mintz with Barlow and Dunn and now we are really talking about something big.

How are Barlows rebounding numbers obviously he is scoring it really well but I haven’t seen his rebounding numbers look that good

Is Mintz RJ Davis good? Because UNC swooped in and snatched his azz up!

RJ was never ours though. We were always in the hunt with Marquette and Georgetown.

At least in this case, Mintz already gave his verbal. Of course, nothing is guaranteed, so nobody will feel great till he signs.

He's been averaging slightly under 4 boards per game at under 19 minutes per game on the most loaded team in the Peach Jam as a PF. Kyle Filipowski has been eating up a lot of the boards who is going to move into the Top 15 Nationally as a ranked 5 star in the next rankings update.

The rebound numbers are a little low. But if they start to get much better than where they are now with his scoring numbers, he is going to have a major, major jump in the new rankings with a ton of offers and at that point its going to be very difficult to get him. Its much better he stays less talked about as much as possible for our sake and those rebound numbers stay where they are.

Whitehead is a puzzling watch at times. Half of the time (maybe more) you are questioning his ranking and hype. Then he does something that looks like he should already be in the NBA.

You are a broken record. Every year you say “get this guy, this guy and this guy and Capel will be on to something huge”. Every year, that doesn’t happen. Your fallback position is then to over-glorify the plan B guys Pitt does get by comparing their performances at various scouting tournaments favorably to the performances of the big time prospects in those same tournaments. This is a pattern-and a weird one.

When does Mintz play next? Keep the updates coming.

In the early game today, Team Durant blows out Drive Nation 76-50 ending their 5 game win streak and continuing Team Durant's undefeated record of dominance.

Judah Mintz finished with 16 points on 5-8 shooting, 2-2 from 3, and 4-4 from the line. His shooting continues to be highly impressive, especially from 3 as he is still knocking them down. Mintz added 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 turnovers, and 0 steals. Mintz forced 3 turnovers with pressure defense, 2 off the press defense resulting in passes that led to turnovers, one in the halfcourt. Top 50 Nationally rated recruit Jordan Walsh was so upset with his turnovers from Mintz after he turned it over, he slammed the ball, got a technical foul, then Mintz forced him to turn it over again on the next possession in the halfcourt which put him on the bench.

Mintz picked up 2 early fouls in the first 4 minutes of the game in the 1st quarter and he sat on the bench the rest of the first half. Both his fouls were poor decisions, 1 was against a defender in the post, and another on a reckless transition drive where he was out of control picking up his second foul.

Mintz hit the reset button at halftime and flipped the switch ON in the 3rd quarter finishing with 10 points and 3 assists in the 3rd stretching the lead to 30 while forcing 3 turnovers. Mintz and Whitehead led all scorers with 16 points. Mintz sat the remaining 4 minutes in the 4th quarter as the game was over. Mintz played roughly 16 minutes total, about half the game.

Respectfully,

1)I think you really have me confused with perhaps someone else as I've only been here a few years now.

2) Everything was canceled last year so there wasn't many tournaments like there are now. Even some full basketball seasons over the winter were canceled because of the coronavirus.

3) You are entitled to your opinion on however you feel how good each player is.

4) The one player I have been most wrong about was Gerald Drumgoole to this point if you are looking for salt to throw. Although the entire La Lumiere team Drumgoole played on, the #1 high school team in the country that lost in the title game after being undefeated all year, none of them lived up to the hype in college. The whole was much better than the sum of the parts. Yes, Drumgoole was a bust. And every other scout that had him a 4 star got it wrong too.

5) If you think Judah Mintz is a plan B guy, respectfully, you aren't very smart.

EYBL session Awards

Mintz, 1st Team All EYBL (6::30 mark in video podcast in the link if you want to listen to someone else hype this kid up on both ends of the floor)

Sanders, 3rd Team All EYBL and has not shot it well, he's capable of much better 3 point shooting

Barlow, EYBL Honorable mention

Sean Jones, EYBL Honorable mention

Respectfully there was a time
I agreed (as did others on
here) with the above poster.
The overhype, and incessant
use of ORTG's etc made me
wonder if you had a clue
as to what was happening
on the floor. It was data,
statistics, and over hype.

You've made a tremendous
change as you covered and
analyzed players in this
recent Peach Jam tourney.
I found your reviews of
Mintz, other players, and
teams to be much more
objective. The stats are
important, but as you've
shown recently, so is the
eye test. Good work! Keep
it up because not all of us
follow the recruiting world
as well as you.

I agree. These reports on this event have been excellent.

Jonathan Beagle with a 10 point 7 rebound performance for NY City Rocks in a 3 point loss. A few of his misses today just rimmed out or he would have had a better shooting performance.

Beagle is averaging 9.5 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game for the tournament on 58% shooting. Beagle is a 6'10 Power Forward / Center with a pretty large wingspan. Its been reported from a pretty legit source we are starting to recruit him harder. Pitt was his first power 6 offer a few months ago. He is from Hudson Falls, New York.

Still doesn't have any other P6 offers though yet, correct?

Not that Im aware of. I have not watched him enough either.

Im not sure if he is battling an injury, but possibly / likely is. In his first 2 games he put up monster numbers at 21 points per game and 7 boards per game. But his next 4 games , his minutes were cut in half and he played a much lesser role. Today he played more with better production again at 21 minutes. I only watched some parts of his game, not the whole thing. And he barely played against team Durant.

Watched him twice over the weekend. He was underwhelming and didn't look very athletic. Actually looked over-matched to me. An injury would explain alot.

NY Lightning hold off Expressions 95-79 in overtime.

Pitt target Jaquan Sanders from Bronx NY found his stroke and finished with 16pts and 5 assists on 3-5 from 3 with a solid floor game and playmaking. Sanders has Pitt in his Top 4 and is a potential visitor after the peach jam, we have not offered yet but are recruiting him hard.
Pitt target Ayo Sadiku from OSL NY finished with 12-7-2. Pitt target Silas Sunday with 12pts and 3 boards on 75% shooting. All 3 were solid for the most part.

Desmond Claude was the best player in the game with 21 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists on 7-11 shooting and is currently an unranked 3 star player. Claude, a 6'6+ point guard with a huge wingspan, gave Judah Mintz more trouble on defense than any other player Mintz went up against in this tournament imho and Mintz has been checking 5 stars a lot of these games. Tall, very long, and massively underrated that can dribble drive and shoot. I don't know his recruiting situation but this is the 2nd time I am saying this, we should start recruiting him now. A bit shaky on the press with his passing, but big upside. Claude is averaging 14.2 /3.2 / 4.2 / 1 for the tournament with a 60% shooting percentage.

FWIW ... just from the video, he just doesn't "feel" like an ACC player to me. But I've been wrong plenty of times in my life before. LOL

Mintz is on no college team roster. Until he physically signs an LOI, he's nobody's player, including Pitt's. For now, we can hope he signs with us. That's all we can do. These kids are fickle.

That Desmond Claude kid, in the same league as Santos and Femi.
Seems like a league where kids are getting totally looked over.
