That game last night just magnifies the lost opportunity of us losing to NW. Even though very few teams could have withstood the injuries to vital members of their team & still played up to their capabilities. We still lost by just 1 possession to a very well coached & prepared team. It wasted a final Top 25 finish & a 4 game win streak started by beating a outstanding Clemson team on their own home field.
Sorry but that loss was a whole lot more destructive if only because of what it stops the program from promoting going forward into next season. We cannot sell Top 25, Bowl game Champions on a 4 game win streak, etc., etc. It might sound incidental but there are real foundations to what a win in that game could have meant to our Program.
It's why I say that we still need to convince any & all of our players how important it is to go into each & every game as if the world thinks you suck & do not deserve any success. We need to keep the Clemson game intensity against even the most meaningless opponent or environment the way Saban demands his Alabama kids play regardless of opponent, the score or even if it is his 4th team players out on the field mopping up. You play every play as if the outcome of that play determines the season, game, championship, etc.
And I still believe we had 1 important coach who had already mailed in his effort getting us prepared for the game & it showed in quick snaps, pre play penalties, fumbled handoffs, etc. all things that preparation & concentration eliminated for us all season long until our OC had his mind elsewhere thus our entire offense did not prepare for this game w/ a laser like focus.
I know Coach Duzz wants to blow this off as quick as possible but I do think there needs to be some self reflection about what allowed this sloppiness to occur because this was the same result as last years Bowl game. We came out & looked nothing like the team we had watched all year long. It's not like we played well & lost to a better team, we did not even come close to doing what we did all year long. That is the most disturbing thing about this Bowl game, America did not get to see the real Pitt team that beat Clemson on their home field, ran rampant on multiple good teams, etc.
I am not blaming Coach Duzz but I do believe as a HC he needs to learn & experience much more to be the man that can get us to where we all want to be as a Program. The good news is he is more than capable, has the motivation & energy & most of all has the passion for this University. That I really believe....H2 PITT !!!
