Ped State is ranked and we are not?

David Hale said in the polls there are 10 teams with the same record that beat a team head to head, and the team that lost is ranked higher.

Had we not butthole puckered away a 13-point fourth quarter lead against UNC we would be 6-1 and ranked as well. As usual, Pitt has no one to blame but Pitt.
very good point and 100% true.. If we win the next two, we will be ranked..

If we beat VT we will be ranked. We beat UPS so we have true bragging rights until we play next season. Think of the bright side.....Franklin's job is now safe until then!

9 like I've said all fall watch what you wish for,Franklin!

Franklin is a NOTHING. He's about as worrisome as a cloudy day when it comes to his coaching.

The fact that PSU is ranked is EXACTLY the kind of fuel Narduzzi and this team need to keep laser focused and pissed off. Nothing better than a team with a little bit of talent playing with a chip on its shoulder.

Screw Franklin. Shouldn't you be "soaking in" his big moment instead of trying to convince us that losing to us didn't matter?

As much as a bafoon Franklin appears at times, I will say that his team has not quit at all this year and are always playing very hard. Down big to pitt and three separate times appeared dead in the osu game and they kept playing...hard.

The same way pitt players have always played hard for narduzzi and always seem to believe they have a chance, psu players seem to do the same. Coaches that get their players to play hard and never quit worry me.

UNC loss or no... PSU doesn't belong ranked above Pitt and any attempt to say they do at this point is egregiously absurd

The records are identical, but Penn State beating #2 tOSU is a much more impressive win than Pitt beating Penn State. Given who we've played so far the PSU win is our best one, and they just now cracked the Top 25.

I dislike seeing PSU (and WVU for that matter) ranked and Pitt not, but I don't think the argument that Pitt should be ranked right now has merit. We've lost to the two best teams we've played, and while UNC and OK St are good teams they are not world beaters. We need to show a lot more than that.

I don't like PSU as much as the next guy but of course they are ranked...they are 5-2 and just beat the #2 ranked team. The fact that we are a good team helps their ranking as well as we are not a bad loss. We don't have a bad loss either but do not yet have a signature win. We will be ranked when we beat VT.

I know the OP is a troll, but responding anyway.

It really doesn't matter. Pitt just needs to take care of what is in front of them.

Bingo! You nailed this. We need a big time win (PSU wasn't it). However if we beat VT it should
get us the ranking we deserve. The other wins (GT, UVA, Marshall, and Nova) simply don't cut it.

Some of you may remember that the same thing happened to Pitt in 2002. We were 5-2 with losses to ATM and Notre Dame, went down and beat #3 ranked Virginia Tech in Blakesburg and debuted at 17 in the polls.

getting dusted by 39 be damned...the original post was about Pitt vs Psu in the rankings... If you are going to play the "of course" card, of course Pitt (two tough road loses to good teams) vs PSU (one great win and one total embarrassing beat down and a loss to the team we are comparing them to) should be ranked higher...

The next time logic is on display in a college football poll, it will be the first.

Who cares. Beat VT.

To me, the Michigan loss is countered by the OSU win. I don't really care about margin of victory...they are both top 5 teams. So that leaves their loss to us, a good but not yet great team. They beat a few mid-level big ten teams in Maryland, Minnesota and beat a decent team in Temple. The rest of their schedule is cake given that MSU sucks this year.

We've lost to two teams in the same category of us, Ok St. and NC. We beat a good team in PSU and a mid-level ACC team in GT.

The meat of our schedule is in the second half while their tough games are pretty much over. So yes, I think its pretty obvious they should be ranked slightly higher than us right now with even records. If we both go 4-1 down the stretch, I think we end up passing them in the polls. In fact, we probably get pretty darn close if we beat VT this week.

PSU has significantly improved on the defensive side of the ball, mostly due to two starting linebackers getting healthy again (combined for 30 tackles vs OSU in their first game back) and the young d-line showing huge progress since week 3. You certainly outplayed us earlier in the year so would love to get another shot at you in bowl game.

They are ranked in the media poll the same media who agreed with James from State College that it was a healing moment. I used to get fired up about polls now I just worry about wins as Nick Saban says you win them all guess what you'll be ranked.

I would argue that the win against GT was a better win for PITT this year than the one against PSU.

WTF? Same record and we BEAT them!

Sagarin's computer doesn't see either ranked. However, It does have PSU at #31 vs Pitt at #37 and PSU about 2 points better on a neutral site.

That's probably a pretty fair assessment at this moment in time.

If we beat VT Thursday that will probably flip.

Fair assessment my ass.... Pitt beat PSU ... never trailed at any point nor was even tied... this after making their own mistakes at points in the game helping PSU survive at all. Very little difference between this game and the UGA no coach bowl game... as for beating #2 guaranteeing rankings??? Nope Pitt beat WVU who was #2 & 28 point favorite AT THEIR HOUSE... didn't make Pitt ranked.

No computer numbers equal playing head to head. Pitt won and should beat VT on Thursday. We will be ranked. We are pretty close to being 7-0

I would argue that the win against GT was a better win for PITT this year than the one against PSU.
I would argue beating GT is better than any of PSUs wins aside from Ohio State and unless it happens at Clemson I doubt Pitt gets a butt tuning like PSU took from Michigan either

9 and Psu was pretty close to beating Pitt!Remember the saying about being close only counts in two things and football isn't one of them.Beat Va Tech and your ranked take it to the bank! We'll see how good Franklin is this weekend? It was easy getting the team fired up for Osu but Purdue is a different animal.Im looking for a real struggle,Im on upset alert!Fans in Morgantown are torn about Thursday's game, they don't know who to cheer for! They hate VaTech too,Im personally rooting for you guys, for a lot of reasons.

Beating the #2 ranked team and making a so called Heisman candidate look bad is a big deal. They deserve their ranking as the loss to PITT was earlier in theyear and in college that has some meaning. PITT has a chance to be ranked by winning Thurs and playing hard the rest of the way. I'm more concerned about how PITT plays than the Ped's ranking.

Duzz needs to start beating teams that are better than us once in awhile. We had both teams we lost to down and didn't close the deal. That's on Pitt and the staff

The ACC is just a fast superior conference than the BIG. The quality of QBs in the A

Good gracious, if PSU loses to Purdue, a team that lost to Maryland 50-7, it's time to officially shut down the program.

And if my memory is correct. We should of beat A&M just like UNC this year. Completely dominated both teams. Only to become unraveled like a typical Pitt team
