I know a ex penn st linebacker from Western Pa who has told me and others many times. Jerry Sandusky was a running joke known by everyone affiliated with the football program.
He played at Penn st in the late 90's.

Yet, their fans are in complete denial.........really sad

Lots of jumping to conclusions without sufficient facts. I have a work colleague who I believe is totally honest who lettered at PSU in the Paterno era as a football student manager. He honestly says he never heard a single mention of Sandusky's proclivities during his time as a student manager. So I think it likely the cover up was pretty well done for quite some time.

I am a practicing Catholic and have been embarrassed and disappointed by the abuse that my church has covered up through the years. But the church abusers also led us in the Our Father and Hail Mary but either committed the abuse or covered it up. Answer is money and advancement. Most people that worked up close knew to just do their job and keep your head down. People who didn't were terrorized. Since just about everyone in town is somehow connected to the school (at least indirectly), the worst thing you could do is stare and point. You think Schiano and Bradley are DC's at prominent programs today if they say something? Mike McQueary can't even get a job emptying trash at Sheetz now.

Same experience from two former PSU players. I was also told by them that Sadusky was highly considered and front runner for UVA job and Paterno called into the UVA hierarchy and discouraged the hire. Welsh ended up getting the job. I believe those two players.

To be fair seeing Jerry doing something and hearing a rumor are completely different things. In the first the person who didn't say anything deserves to be thrown in jail. In the second its a rumor your not going to the cops saying I heard Jerry likes little boys!

Sandusky is a scumbag. Anyone fighting the good fight on PSUs behalf stating otherwise is also a scumbag. So 10 kids get abused and/or raped and then scumbag PSU cultist zeros in on 1 kid that might be exploiting the situation. The deny it to the death mentality some at Penn State exhibit is disgracefully. Any rational human being would expect Joe Paterno and staff to know exactly what was going on. And they did know. That's not the issue or the problem, them knowing. The problems began at the very beginning when they responded to initial awareness with misguided priorities. Not sure why you responded to me but that's my opinion.
