Talked to a group of guys at breakfast yesterday, and the first thing they said to me was 'Are you going to Pitt game Thursday'? My answer was 'absolutely, are you?' One said no, he has comp tickets from work to the Pens game, and 4 of them are going, the other says he has season tix to Pens game, and doesn't miss unless he has to. They all said they are DVRing it. I often wonder why Pitt and Pens games are scheduled on the same day, and in this case the same time. In addition, it creates a traffic problem, which I hope to beat by going real early.

Dang lemieux.
Why doesn't he have the Pens start their game at noon so Pitt can play at night.
Bet if Pitt had.....ah never mind :p

These games are scheduled so far ahead. It is a pro town, they don't share the same stadium/parking areas. One would not affect the other. Hell, look at Cleveland last night, opening night for the Cavs and down the street Game 1 of the WS.. When you are in a big city, this is the life we choose.

Pitt is really #4 team in town at best.

1. Steelers
2. Pens
3. Pirates
4. Pitt

In level of fan support. There's nothing you can do about it. Now if Pitt was 7-0 and ranked in the top 10, facing VT on a Thursday Night, maybe those guys would skip the Pens for Pitt. Happy Valley, Ann Arbor, Tuscaloosa, don't have Stanley Cup Champion hockey teams, Super Bowl winners, or 5 time World Series champs.

I'm not sure when both leagues start on figuring out the schedule, but Pitt/ACC released their football schedule about four months before the Pens/Nhl.

Those pro teams are also successful and very popular at the time. Makes it tough on those who are also Pitt fans.

Right now, I'd say:

1. Steelers
2. Penguins
3. Pirates
4. Pitt football
5. Penn State football
6. Pitt basketball
7. Notre Dame football
8. West Virginia football

The Penguins usually have a home game when we have a Thursday home game. Its tradition. Realistically though, that probably only keeps away 2500 or so fans I'd estimate.

If that, I'd agree. there are a lot of specific puck heads now in the 'burgh who care little about anything but hockey, I'd doubt many in the PPG Arena are thinking about the Pitt football game.

Given the choice, I'd opt for the Pitt game, IMO it's preseason hockey until about after the Super Bowl! LOL.

The problem is, the price for a Pens ticket in many cases is close to the price of a Pitt season ticket.

But yeah, we really, really, really need to stop this. It has become an obsession. We are what we are. We are where we are. There is almost nothing short of the Steelers leaving town that would change this. So we need to stop obsessing over every game, every empty seat and every opposing fanbase slam against us.

The ONLY remedy is also not happening. Winning, going 12-0 is not going to change this. It would help, but seriously there are just too few people in this region who could truly give a serious **** about college football, let alone Pitt football. So that remedy is a "right sized" on campus stadium. That is the only thing that would resolve this issue, if this is truly that big of an issue.

It is October. This is football season. This should not even be a difficult decision. Sell the hockey tickets.
There are people that like hockey more than football. I'd go to a Steelers game in July over a Pirates game because baseball means nothing to me.

If you think the NHL is going to check with the ACC before making out their schedule you must be smoking something.

When I go to a Pitt game, I don't even care that there's 20k empty seats, I go there for me, not to see a full stadium necessarily. It would be nice, but on the other hand, less people makes it less crowded, less traffic, less waiting in line. Either way, I enjoy myself.

Heh, probably, though I was referring to Recruits comment about the schedules being made up far in advance.
That, and the popular narrative here that the Pirates could avoid paying home games when Pitt is also at home, but that Nutting simply chooses not to.

Yeah only way this would be a hard choice is if this was Game 7 of the Finals but I'd still choose to go watch the Panthers and we are still 6 months away from any real meaningful hockey games

Why must we whine about attendance. It is what it is. We can not change it. It is up to the leaders to build a better following. I only worry about my self and the rest of my group. That is all I am in control of. Constant complaining does nothing constructive.
