People Who Do Not Attend Games

No. Tarping seats will not make it louder or improve the atmosphere a speck. I've been to plenty of places that tarp for basketball and football...and it just reinforces how lame the crowd really is. If a recruit is going to choose a school for his scholarship based upon game attendance or atmosphere, Pitt simply is not going to get many of those guys to sign. Do you honestly believe a tarp is fooling anyone? Hail to Pitt!
45-50k people in a 50k seat stadium will make a big impact perception wise on TV and help the situation in person. People usually make more noise when other people around them are getting loud. It is the same reason 3rd down is the loudest the crowd gets.

There's 2 kinds of fans...

1) Die Hard Fans that are dedicated and devoted and will do anything, sacrifice everything else in their lives, never miss a game for 50 years no matter what else is going on in their lives, to attract recruits, to support players, to advance the program, MAKE NOISE!

2) NORMAL PEOPLE, people who go for their own enjoyment, when it's comfortable and when it fits their schedule. To have fun when there's nothing better or more important to do. MORE IMPORTANT is defined by that individual making the decision.

Tarping helps. That's why other teams do it.

Helps what? I've been to Raymond James for several USF games that were tarped...not a decibel louder--and it looked lame. I've also been to several basketball games, including the tarping at the Prudential Center...was not a bit louder and the curtains hanging looked silly. Nobody is fooled into thinking the place is actually full when you put tarps up or hang curtains. I thought selling booze to the common man was supposed to solve the problem? LOL Hail to Pitt!

Putting tarps up does not suddenly actually make the stadium a 45K seat stadium--that is just plain silly. News flash, the stadium will still seat 68K+ the acoustics and place will look exactly the same, other than eyesore tarps to immediately attract your eyes to the open sections/seats. Tarps do not help, they merely act as camouflage in a foolish attempt to hide something. Pitt football has far more pressing issues than developing some lame tarp program. Hail to Pitt!

Not gonna fool anyone, but may look a little better and decreasing supply can't hurt either. Also seems dumb to have say the bleacher section open, staffed, concessions, security, etc for 500 people. Not sure how that works though. But agree, no easy way to do it especially15 years after the fact.
