1) It was a great win for them. Officiating aside, they won, that's what counts to fans, as an 18 point underdog nonetheless.
2) It makes the Pitt victory over PSU look better. Nationally, some would overlook that win because PSU was having a bad year. Now, PSU's season doesn't look so bad.
3) It takes down OSU a notch. And, Urban doesn't look so much like Vince Lombardi. They recruit so well, and another CFB playoff would add to their resume. Michigan is better this year and will probably beat them. A two loss season is somewhat a downer for them.
4) Recruiting against PSU just got a little tougher. They will use that win and atmosphere to the max. Go get 'em Duzz.
5) Pitt fans have been wanting PSU to keep Franklin. Well, this helps that.
6) With that win and the season WVU is having, it sets Pitt's bar higher. A Pitt signature win this year would be helpful to our resume and perception.
7) It gives us fans optimism of competing with Clemson. Even though I have felt Clemson is better than OSU this year, and it is on the road, Pitt has a chance to shock the cfb world just as PSU did. We will be a big underdog in that game, so Pitt has nothing to lose.
8) Next year's game will be played at a higher level than this year's. Both teams will be better, and the stakes could be higher.
9) PSU fans overall arrogance and hatred for Pitt just went up a notch, LOL. We'll have to live with it.

Well will psu be ranked now? And will Pitt be ranked now since Pitt beat psu and I believe both have same record

The national perspective is they are 'back' and Franklin now a star again.
No one cares about trumpeting 107 outside of Pa but everyone notices them beating osu or mich.
The local perspective will be the demons are buried and everyone can wear their psu
t shirts again.
Wisc exposed some things on osu offense and Meyer looking like he needs another sabbatical.
For Pitt, thank god they held on and won that game is all i can say.

tOSU lost a ton of talent last year. Just the fact they were in the playoff picture this year (and still are) is a testament to Urban's great recruiting.

Even before PSU lucked this one out it was obvious this tOSU squad is no where near a top 2 team. They couldn't throw down field and couldn't do much on the ground. And their OLine couldn't keep the rush off their QB. Not taking anything away from the Nits, it was a great win, but tOSU #2 in the land? Don't think so.

Right now, Bama is head and shoulders above everyone. Michigan & Washington are taking care of business. tOSU may not be #2, but they are certainly top 10.

tOSU & Urban Meyer represent excellence. Any time they lose, it's a big deal.

I agree but this team doesn't have that super team look. Agree they are top ten.

So now people will be quick to proclaim that PSU is "back". I know it's a big win, but it is still just one win. And did we really think Franklin was just never going to get his signature win? He was due.

Here's the deal though: I'll say PSU is on their way back if they can continue to take care of business in the rest of Big Ten play this year. Lucky for them Iowa and MSU are having down years too, this is a big chance for them.

Oh, they still haven't won a road game this year. Hm, also lucky for them they happen to get Purdue, Indiana and Rutgers on the road.

Ohio State's secondary was so ineffective, and they supposedly have far better talent than Pitt. Weird. And how can the likes of TOSU be unable to have any semblance of a downfield passing game?

That win for the Pedds will go down with 48-14 and the Fiesta Bowl win over Miami as one of the greatest upsets in PSU history. And like those two other games, the Nitts did it with a few big, gutty plays. Hey I hate PState with a passion, but they earned this one. OSU had PSU by the throat at 12-0, but that late score in the 2nd quarter changed the flow of the game. Ohio State could not put the Fighting Franklins away. Give Penn State credit for showing moxie.

We lose a lot of veteran leadership to assume we will be better next year.

This doesn't hurt Pitt, provided we finish with a good record. If the Nitters finish 10-2, and Pitt wins 9 games, PSU becomes our signature win.

PSU ranked, if Pitt wins Thursday, this PSU win will help Pitt with the ranking it will receive, should they win on Thursday.

I hate PSU as much as the next non pedophile, but this win was good for Pitt, IF Pitt closes out the year strong. 9-3, at worst 8-4 and that makes the next 3 years be meaningful for other than bragging rights. It will give the PA recruits the feel of what this rivalry was and should be, and will help keep these players in state.

Pitt just needs to hold up their end of this bargain, and if PSU finishes 9-3 or 10-2 like their schedule allows, then it will bode well for our beloved Panthers.

WVU, Pitt, PSU all could have very good seasons and that would be the first time in a long time that eastern CFB was a prominent player. I hate to say it, but I would love to see a combined losses of 6 to 8 for all three teams combined. When was the last time all three had a chance to be good in the same season; 35 years? The times they are a changing!

If PITT wins 9 games, it means they will go 3-2 the rest of the way. I would consider a win over VT or Miami as a better win at this point in the season than the early win against PSU. Remember, they are still dealing with sanctions, so PITT should have won the game by double digits.

Wisconsin on the road and then Happy Valley with a young team facing a rested team. It played out pretty much how I expected.

Pitt had signature wins over Notre Dame. One game nice but one game. PSU won against a team that if they played next week the nits would be underdogs. No one thinks PSU is better and I expected the bucknuts to win. VTech is up next and the ACC is where the focus needs to be. Narduzzi is correct in that thinking. Beating the nits is great but winning the coastal is what the goal is.

Pitt can still do that winning the next 4 out of 5. Not sure Pitt is there yet in year two, but they have a good chance to do that. A 8-4 season is still very good. But 9-3 and maybe being a last TD loss is really good. Pitt will recruit well and the nits have what 6 openings. No one is switching from the buckeyes or Michigan for Franklin.
