Roman Catholic had some players.Really 5 d-1 guys if counting young kid off bench. Goretti was loaded and always is, just a different level of player.I was thinking one of the differences was Philly kids play hoops and that's it.Our area athletes seem to play football and basketball, the Jackson's and Creighton were dual sport kids. The Philly kids are year round hoop players and it really shows when you watch them.Allderdice was fun to watch and had a great year.Hope their kids have successful college careers

It helps to have a population base nearly 3x the size as well. Let alone the curious private/charter school accumulation of regional talent that goes on there. The WPIAL plays by a different set of rules relating to transfers than the rest of the state.

With that all said, I agree whole-heartedly that we should be digging more talent out of greater Philadelphia. Having Nas on the roster seems like a looooooong time ago.

We haven't been able to recruit in Philly since the Jaylen Bond "incident".

I was thinking this too. Its an area Pitt should look at a bit more.
Lots of great players out there!
The operative word is LOOK!
And as a head coach you have to "sell" yourself to the recruit just like the recruit has to "sell" himself to the U.
College sports is a huge Marketing / Sales game!

If you had a choice whether to attend Philly public or charter/private you would understand.
The PPSS is a bloody mess. We see the athletes at the highest level, but they are the proverbial tip of the iceberg.

PITT TREATS PHILLY LIKE IT'S ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GLOBE...JUST BEYOND STUPID BUT THEN AGAIN WE ARE AN EAST COAST TEAM AND THE MOST RECENT ASST. WE HIRED HAS TIES TO THE MIDWEST. JUST STUPID....AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY RECRUITING HAS GONE TO HELL.(sorry for the caps)

Agreed - we play in the ATLANTIC COAST Conference. Therefore, we play on the EAST COAST for the geographically impaired people out there. Not sure why we hired an asst. with MIDWEST connections that was the #3 asst. at UMass.

Agree 100% with this. Pitt is never going to make hay trying to land Midwest kids. The focus has to be from NYC, to DC, plus ACC territory.
