Article Pickett has a "great experience" in first college spring

He might very well be the starter next year.

I agree. Him or a grad transfer.

He reminds me of Joe Flacco, not in his style, but a very good young QB from out East that was lightly recruited, nobody knew about and everyone expected to be a career backup.

People assume MacVittie is the future QB. Pickett is better. In fact, I was talking to a local HS coach who was down at a Pitt practice talking with Narduzzi and he said Narduzzi spoke very highly of Pickett and indicated he is the backup QB RIGHT NOW. I told the guy that DiNucci was the backup and he was surprised, he thought from what Narduzzi was saying that Pickett was the backup. Which leads me to think that DiNucci is the backup and Pickett will be redshirted but if there is a long-term injury to Browne, Pickett would be the guy.

That's what I was thinking. And I hate to say this but he also reminded me of Trace McSorely. Good field and pocket awareness. Doesn't have the 5 star measurables but seems like a natural QB.

Narduzzi said in a live wire video that he's the best young QB they've had.

Seems like a great prospect but let's not get ahead of ourselves. He hasn't even gone to his senior prom yet. The competition should be great next year.

Exactly.

While it would be awesome to see Pickett play well enough to be the starter, let's wait to see if he can throw accurately downfield with consistency before we get serious about him being the backup and heir apparent at QB. Completing 6 of 13 for 36 yards is not exactly spectacular.

MacVittie has all of the tools to be a very good QB for Pitt and he looked more accurate to me than both DiNucci and Pickett in the few videos I've seen of the QBs during Spring practice (admittedly a small sample size).

Who's to say Narduzzi isn't making these comments about Pickett to get the most out of his other QBs.

Still, it's good to hear Pickett is playing well.

Keep in mind many receivers dropped many balls and happened the previous Saturday as well.

Thanks Chris, sounds and reads Pitt's Pickett has similar High School Paths knowing a Pro Set Offense as Trace McSorley knew the PSU Moorhead Spread has he ran it in High School. The way he embraces Pitt Offense and Program and Coaches shows smarts, confidence, and spirit one wants to see a QB.
Best Excerpt I Liked:
“I think the football part has been a little easier for me because coming from a pro-style offense in high school, I didn’t really have as bad a transition coming in with Coach (Shawn) Watson’s offense and learning it; everything really builds off each other, so when the new installs come in, I kind of have a good idea of the old stuff and the new stuff and how to build off it, memorizing everything. “So I’ve really had an easy - not easy, but a decent transition with the offensive part. But class, I’m not used to having two-and-a-half hour classes at night, so that’s been tough getting the hang of it.”.....Part of that is innate; Pickett has “moxie” and “composure,” Narduzzi said. But part of it also comes from his training, which Narduzzi and Watson both praised. Prior to arriving at Pitt, Pickett was working with Chris Malleo, the head coach at the Peddie School in Highstown (N.J.).............When Pickett combined that background with the teaching he picked up from Watson in the last four months to put together an impressive spring. So impressive, in fact, that the Gold Team drafted him in the run-up to last weekend’s Blue-Gold Game. He didn’t put up much in the way of stats in that game - just 36 yards on 6-of-13 passing - but he showed some of his natural abilities, like making plays with his legs.......Pickett opted to trust Narduzzi. And the results so far? “It’s been perfect,” he said. “I couldn’t imagine a better coach to have. It really worked out great. Like I said, I trusted Coach Narduzzi and look what happened: I got a great coach and it’s been an awesome time so far. I’m looking forward to the future.”
