Barnes just tweeted this 10 minutes ago:

Pitt's allotment was 7,000.... so that means we've sold over 6,000 since Sunday afternoon. I can attest that all of the $55 and $70 seats are sold out, because I tried to get an extra single. All that is left are the $95 and $140 seats. Among the $95 seats, it is almost all singles. You can still get up to 8 tickets together in the $140 seats.

This is roughly the pace we sold at last year for the Military Bowl. Our initial allotment for that bowl was 7,700 and by the end of the first week, 6,300 were sold.

So... the pace is robust.

ps. If you try to get seats through Northwestern for their side of the field, you can still get $55 and $70 seats. The Wildcats are selling much less briskly than Pitt at this point.

Waited too long and had to buy the tix in 129. I know nothing about Yankee Stadium, hopefully these won't be down too low to see the action since I know the field will be a little ways from the seats.

Why would a Pitt fan consider buying tickets through Northwestern ? Pitt gets no credit for you buying NW tickets. If you are going to take the time to travel back and forth to NYC, spend all those dollars for the bowl trip, and tolerate the weather buy your tickets from Pitt athletic dept. Otherwise buying tickets from stub hub or other locations amounts to you never have gone to the game at all. You will be the invisible Pitt fans.

If Pitt totally fills their side of the stadium then its understandable. But we have to fill our side first.

And anyone who does end up on the other side is required to wear lots of Pitt gear, especially the throwback stuff that really stands out.

Nah, man. Wear that gray pitt sweatshirt or even that Steelers jersey

Haha. I especially loved the Pitt fans who wore white shirts to the Pitt/PSU game. Would it have killed them to wear a blue or gold shirt.

Pitt fans are the worst at this. Even down at Clemson were Pitt was very well represented, there were plenty of Pitt fans in that section wearing non-Pitt clothing. I mean if you are going to spend money and make the trip to South Carolina, you will survive if you don't wear a Polo with your company's logo on it.

just booked my red eye from las vegas. my west coast girls first time in NYC. I'm pumped and so is she but maybe not for the game. lol

buying tickets through Pitt . 998 left

I said this a few years ago and got yelled at. I cant stand when I see a yinzer who has Steeler gear at a Pitt game.

I'm assuming he just went to their site to see how their remaining tickets compared to ours. (I hope.)

Can't believe anyone yelled at you on here for that - I hate it. Yinzers at their finest.

So based on Barnes's tweets, here is the estimated ticket selling trend:

Monday: 3500
Tuesday: 875
Wednesday: 875
Thursday: 375
Friday: 375

Sales will probably continue to trend downward as most people buy within the first few days.

I do expect we sell out our alottment but it will probably be towards the end of next week or the week after.

The other thing to consider is I'm sure there are fans waiting until a few days before the game to make a decision because of the weather. They dont want to spend a couple thousand and not go because of a blizzard or 10 degree weather. But we wont get "credit" if those fans buy.

I would estimate the total number of Pitt fans at around 10K when you factor in last-minute weather checkers and fans just buying through the bowl site.

To see how this compares, in googing old articles, WVU was given 5K and Syracuse 10K for their 2012 game. Through Week 1, WVU sold 3200 and Syr sold all but a few hundred of their 10K. So, Pitt has almost doubled WVU's Week 1.

Rutgers sold 10,440 and 15,010 for its 2 Pinstripe games. I couldn't find others.

Duke said they sold all of theirs in a Dec. 24 article but 1300 military, police, etc would be sitting in their sections, implying they gave those tickets away. Plus, Bayonne, NJ was giving away free tickets to residents (not sure if Duke, Ind, or the bowl gave them those tickets). If Duke sold 5700 for a Dec. 26 game, that's pretty good I think.

another reason to buy thru Pitt is that you will get the tickets cheaper than through the official bowl website. On their website the tickets that you can get through Pitt's athletic website for 95 for instance are 125 .They had an early bird special on tickets through the end of November before anyone knew who was playing but they are now adjusted . Many Pitt fans are in and around sections ranging from 229 through 235 or so which would be around the 20 t0 30 or 35 yard lines and somewhat elevated from the field. In baseball configuration it would be around the left field line.

I just got 2 in 129. Have you heard what sight lines look like?

I think poster was referencing we are buying more than Northwestern.

Last night it took me a couple of tries to land 2 tix through the Pitt website so the allotment must be getting close to sold out. Got 2 in Section 228. Figured it'd be good to sit up off the field since it's a baseball park.

Seem pretty good from what I can tell. Its the part of the field where the wall starts rising towards the outfield. I'm in row 21, hopefully high up enough to see over the sideline well. That's my biggest concern since there will be a big gap between the seats and the sideline.

They wear them to the bars and 50 ft away at those carnival apparel wagons you can buy a PITT hat for $8 cost of a large beer.
Wear PITT stuff at PITT games!
Oh ya the worst is when people wear Pirates stuff not even the right season!
I doubt these people buy PITT football tickets probably freebies!

Too many seats at Heinz means tons of tickets make their way to Steelers fans who have nothing better to do.

Go to the Yankee Stadium website and take the virtual tour in the buying tickets section.
You can see exactly what the sight lines look like from your section and seating area.
Hail to Pitt.
