I know there are some on this board that will refuse to acknowledge this stuff & ONLY look at star ratings. Star ratings are a good indicator of a players talents, thats a fact. But looking at who else wanted the recruit is just as good of an indicator to me. Neither is an exact science because an exact science for it doesnt exist..
So I did some quick math regarding the number of Power 5 offers for Pitt’s current commitments.
Pitt has 13 commits, and those 13 commits have a combined 104 Power 5 offers OTHER than Pitt according to their rivals profiles. Thans an average of 8 Power 5 offers for each recruit other than Pitt. If you add the Pitt offer, since, you know.. pitt is a power 5 school, thats a combined 117 for and average of 9 power 5 offers per recruit.
Ok, an average isnt always a great indicator because a few could have a lot of offers and a bunch could not have any, right?
Well I looked at that too
- Noah Palmer is the only commit that didn’t have any other power 5 offers at the time he committed to pitt. I stress that last part, because it was reported that other programs tried to get in with him as soon as pitt offered.
- Nick Patti only had 2 other power 5 offers, but he just had Bama fly all the way out to NJ to see him.
-Every other commit had at least 3 power 5 offers outside of Pitt.
The point of this is to show that even though pitt doesn’t *currently* have any 4 stars committed, every commit in this class except Palmer was recruited by several other power 5 programs (even though Palmer got interest after the fact). These are not marginal recruits. These are players that SEVERAL power 5 schools wanted.
Now, with all of that said, this class is still missing one or two big thing in regards to team needs, one of which being explosive skill players. There are a few guys currently on officials to pitt that would fix that and potentially a few more are trying to get visits worked out. Narduzzi NEEDS to land at least 1 of them. There are rumors pitt wants 2, and that would be huge if they could pull it off.
The other big need still is explosive pass-rushers.
-Morgan is a good overall prospect at DE with decent size and hes strong, but he doesnt scream pass-rusher to me. That’s still good because DE overall is still a need for this team
- David Green is a guy that I can see being disruptive from either the interior or exterior. He is going to have to really crush it in the weight room but hes got great quickness. I honestly see him as a strongside DE that can set the edge and move inside in the delta and nickle packages.
- Palmer fits the bill. Hes got a frame to end up at around 250-260 pounds at 6’4” and hes fast off the edge.
So, I think Pitt got 2 pass-rushers, but ideally, to me at least, there would have been a third DE who was like Palmer - a speed rusher. Unfortunately I dont think that will happen, there is maybe one guy that we currently know about that would provide that. That exception would be Javontae Jean-Baptiste, athlough, i think theres a chance he would actually be a linebacker (which would still be a good get, regardless).
So in summary, this class isnt perfect by any means. Of course wed all love a class of 4 and 5 stars and I think there are still some needs to be met.. but it is a FACT that this is a class made pretty much entirely of LEGIT power 5 recruits. This isnt a class like 2013 where there are some studs and a lot of reaches.
