Pitt #18

I’ll take it. SMU 13. And we have Clemson and Louisville both ranked coming up.

Need to take care of uva.

First BCS Rankings

Which is exactly what I said. The resume is good. Somehow win these next 4 and we have an excellent chance at the CFP.

PSU was WAY higher than I thought and BYU crazy low. What I hate about committees (football AND basketball) is they penalize bad losses more than they reward good wins. We didn't make the NCAA Tournament last year because we lost a November game to a Missouri team picked to make the NCAAT preseason but ended up going 0-18 in the SEC. PSU is rewarded for a good loss vs OSU but has no good wins. Tennessee beat Alabama but they are penalized more for the Arkansas loss. PSU has no bad losses BUT no good wins.

I am happy with Pitt's ranking.

Not happy to see 4 Big Ten and 4 SEC teams in. We kind of knew it would go this way, but the message is sent now. The CFP will annually be 4 Big Ten, 4 SEC, 1 ACC, 1 Big 12, 1 G5 and then Notre Dame if it's at least 10-2, else maybe Big 12 or ACC get a 2nd team. I know they are talking about actually making 4 Big Ten, 4 SEC formally part of the next deal. But they don't need to. They can just contractually leave it more 'open' like now to pretend there is some semblance of a level playing field, and just pick the 4&4 every year.

For now, I am still interested in a lot of this because Pitt has a good team and somewhat of a shot. But as the years go by and the ACC and Big 12 are basically relegated to G5 status as one-bid leagues, I will likely lose interest altogether in college football.

A 12-1 SMU team leaving a 12-1 Miami team in its wake would get two ACC teams in.

But yeah - it's a weird year. Like Notre Dame doesn't, and hasn't in some time, played anyone that is a legit threat to give them a second loss. Same for Alabama; they play at LSU, but LSU sucks.

I didn't even think of the potential "bid stealers" component to this, but you can see how that could happen in a conference like the Big 12 if BYU wins out in the regular season and loses in the championship game.
