yes, you nailed it. objectively speaking anything over 6 wins would be pretty good.8-5 would be a great year given the schedule in a very much rebuild year. This years schedule has Clemson (#5 preseason and played in the NC game), UNC (#18 Preseason), Oklahoma St (#22 Preseason), and then you add Miami (8-5 last year, but dropped a bad coach in Golden for a really good one in Richt), Duke (8-5), then VT and Virginia both brought in heavy-hitter coaches in Fuente and Mendenhall), and then you throw a 10-3 Marshall on the non-conference slate with the previously mentioned Oklahoma St. Also expect GT to bounce back to a .500 team, Johnson is a good coach down there.
8-5 at this point in rebuilding the talent level is another good step in the right direction to building the program...and recruiting would be very well in that scenario.
Also PSU on next years schedule. Regardless of what we all think of them, they will have talent and it will be a huge game for both teams. Next years schedule is definitely daunting, and I would be more than satisfied with 8-5 and a PSU win. If that happens, I think PN will take recruiting to another level next year, say top 15/20 range.
6 or 7 wins would be extremely disappointing.yes, you nailed it. objectively speaking anything over 6 wins would be pretty good.
Agreed.6 or 7 wins would be extremely disappointing.
Pretty accurate, but I might have Miami and UNC still ahead of Louisville. Possibly even Pitt, I think the Panthers and the 'Ville are pretty level with each other coming into this season. This just released from ESPN…….
Now here is a look at our Way-Too-Early ACC power rankings post-signing day.
1. Clemson: Hard to take the Tigers out of the top spot considering the proven players that return on offense, starting with Watson.
2. Florida State: The Seminoles are an absolute playoff contender with Cook leading the way.
3. Louisville: With 18 starters back, expectations are soaring for the Cards.
4. North Carolina: The Tar Heels don't plan on going anywhere after winning the Coastal Division in 2015.
5. Miami: Mark Richt signed the No. 19 class in the country as he tries to get the Canes into their first ACC championship game behind quarterback Brad Kaaya.
6. Pitt: Coach Pat Narduzzi closed well on signing day, adding to a team that surprised some with its eight-win season in 2015.
7. Virginia Tech: The Hokies didn't make huge headlines on signing day, and now have questions to answer at quarterback.
8. Duke: Coach David Cutcliffe signed the best class in school history, with four ESPN 300 prospects who could be difference-makers early.
9. Georgia Tech: The Jackets return Justin Thomas but need to cure what ailed the offensive and defensive lines last season.
10. NC State: This is a crucial season for coach Dave Doeren, whose team moves forward without Jacoby Brissett leading the way.
11. Virginia: Bronco Mendenhall and his staff have been social media stars. Can they make the Hoos exciting to watch again?
12. Wake Forest: Will this be the year the Deacs get out of the basement?
13. Boston College: The Eagles have a new offensive coordinator and an entirely revamped defensive staff. Will they be able to get them back to a bowl?
14. Syracuse: Plenty of work ahead for new coach Dino Babers, especially on offense.
Everybody loses someone of significance.People who think 8 wins minimum next year are crazy. This roster is not exactly all that great and will be again starting a lot of younger players, although more talented ones than what was left behind for Narduzzi. This is pretty much a rebuilding year that also happens with a schedule that will be a pretty tough one by all standards. I said this before last season that 2017 was going to be a pretty big rebuilding year. Now Narduzzi exceeding expectations in year one getting his system in here, some of the transfer players that fit what he wants, and developing to the best extent he could some of the remaining players.
The good thing is we return much of the OL (actually will probably improve with JJS coming back Oneil a year under his belt, etc. Peterman has a year starting experience, though Boyd will not be there and somehow some unknown receivers need to step up. Running back is still good both in terms of depth and quality (especially if Conner comes back to some level, though Ollison and Hall did very well as freshmen last year). On defense, a lot returns and additional talent added in recruiting could see the field and have an impact like Whitehead did. Also add a monster in Tennessee transfer Hendrix, who is going to blow up in year one.
So I could see anywhere between 6-6 and 9-3 next year. Anything 8 or more should be exceeding expectations in year 2 with this schedule and roster.
7-5 next season is a "Push"
We have a very tough schedule and will be playing a ton of underclassmen.
-the secondary and LBs development will be the key to the season- so i see us getting better as the season progresses.
-expect a slightly better bowl due to our good showing in Annapolis.
2017- we will be favored to win our division, and this will be our most favorable schedule:
Home:
YSU
OK State
Rice
Miami
UNC
UVA
NC State
Road:
Duke
GTech
VTech
Cuse
Nova W
UPS W (Loss would really sting)
OSU L
UNC L (they return a lot and beat us handily here. their back up QB is as good as Williams)
Marshal W
GT W
UVA W
VT W
Miami L
Clemson L (moral victory if they keep it within 2 TDs)
DUke W
Cuse W
An 8 and 4 season seems reasonable. We beat DUke, Cuse, VT and GT on the road and should be able to repeat at home. UVA stinks so a win there is feasible. 7-5 would be a bit disappointing depending upon who we won and lost to and also the injury situation.
Finish 9 and 4 and next years class should really help set up the program for a big run down the road.
Did you purposely leave the road game at PSU off of the schedule?
lol no i actually just forgot about it.
Hendrix and Edwards are going to be strong additions, if we can get a significant increase in pass rush that will go a long way. I wonder what the odds of moving price to olb are? Slim I know but he wouldn't be an end at the next level would he and besides are we a better team with him at olb or de?
Who would you want to start? Hendrix, Edwards at de and price and Pugh at olb or Hendrix and price at de and Bradley/Caprara at olb?
If he is a very good coach he shouldn't be 6-6 against this schedule.People who think 8 wins minimum next year are crazy. Agreed.
8 wins is the minimum.
The schedule is largely the same.
Villanova = ysu.
Marshall is better than Akron, but Pitt still needs to beat teams like this.
As far as I'm concerned, Clemson, Ok St, and psu = Notre Dame, Iowa, Louisville.
Syracuse and the Coastal is the same.
So, Pitt should beat Ysu, Marshall, and Syracuse.
That's 3 wins.
To get to 8, all Pitt needs is go 5-4 against everyone else.
That's it. 1 game over .500
