Pitt 67 Wagner 41

Brenna Wise with the double double in her debut.

Heading back to PGH next weekend for a stacked Pitt sports weekend - seeing that kid live is one of my top priorities.

Pitt women win.

Didn't see or hear the game, but some things that jump out from the boxscore:

--Biggest surprise to me - freshman Kauai Bradley shot 4 for 7 including 3 for 4 on 3-pointers. She is very athletic, but I didn't think she was considered a shooter/scorer. She also had 5 rebounds in her 20 minutes.

--Yacine Diop put some serious defense on Wagner's top scorer who was second in the nation in scoring last season at nearly 25 points per game. This game she was 2 for 13. Would not want Yacine guarding me - she's a terrific athlete. Coach Suzie said in the post-game interview that it will be Yacine's job to guard the opponent's best guard.

--Pitt shot poorly in the 1st half going only 14 for 37 or 38%. They upped it to 44% in the second half.

--The two freshmen starters were Wise and Walters - to go with the 3 returning sophs...

--Brenna Wise had a good game - only shot 5 for 13, but had 12 rebounds. If you check out BW in the post game interview on Pitt LiveWire, you'd have to think she's going to represent Pitt women's basketball very, very well over the next four years. (Link to LiveWire: LINK)

--PG Aysia Bugg shot 5 for 6, including 2 for 3 on 3-pointers; she only had 1 turnover in 28 minutes.

--Overall, Pitt was only 8 for 26 on 3-pointers (31%).

--All eleven on the roster played - fewest minutes were freshman Lamb (who hasn't been practicing much because of a ankle injury), and transfer Destinie Gibbs, who played 7 minutes.

--Wagner had 20 turnovers; Pitt only had 10.

Going to be interesting, given the youth and the number of players in the rotation, to watch how this team develops as the season progresses.

Go Pitt.

Saw her play as a junior in hs. Talked with her mother or aunt. She said Pitt was it at that time.

Thanks for sharing. None of that was in my local paper.
