Pitt and PSU scheduling

I am in my early years of retirement, and am ready to enjoy the upcoming 4 game series. Barnes announced that PSU is not willing to reschedule until at least 2026. At that point, I would be 73, and the future is now for me. Why can't PSU accept another 4 game home and home series spread out in the next decade like what we have with Notre Dame? This way, all college students can experience this.

The one thing that is complicating this is that the Big 10 now has 9 conference games, beginning this year, and I know that if they played Pitt every year, they would be like Iowa with Iowa State and they see no other Power 5 teams. and I can understand PSU wanting other teams as well. All I am saying is do another 4 game set within these constrictions, and spread it out. Discuss................

I think if the upcoming games are close, fun and get good TV ratings both schools will do what they can to continue. It may never be the Friday after thanksgiving like it was in the day but that is okay.

IMHO

I am counting on that. Penn State will only schedule 5 away OOC

Penn State will only schedule 5 games away OOC and they have 2 series with Virginia Tech in 2020 and 2015 and WVU in 2013 and 2024. They have not play the Mountainqueers since 1992 and have never played the Hokies. They supposedly have a big name program coming up in 2021 and 2022, but not released yet

That(annual thing) boat has sailed. They 'have done their part' with regard to pitt, temple. Your grandkids might see a home/home every 10 years or so.

ADs make this way more complicated than it is.. They have openings for years, some they schedule a decade out and the others they leave vacant. Then all of a sudden they fill it with a Villanova or Rice and the excuse is, there was not enough time, no one else was available. It's all BS..

I know the annual game boat has sailed. I am not advocating that, based on a different era. But a 4 game series in the next decade like what we are doing with ND is realistic if there is the will to spread out 4 games. Sept over Thanksgiving weekend is fine with me

Wrong years 2020 and 2025 and 2023 and 2024 with the Hokies and the Queers.

I think we'll see another PSU/Pittsburgh series after this 2016-2019 series, but honestly ...... 2026 is TEN years away!!! TEN!!!

I simply don't see why there is a need/rush to schedule OOC games that far out. Lord only knows what the college football landscape will look like in future years.

I hate the B1G 9 game schedule. I like variety and I like seeing schools and fans come in for the first time. If it was up to me I would make the rule only allowed 8 conference games and 6 home games per year. In order to be eligible for the playoff you must play a schedule of 11 power 5 teams. No FCS schools. As a fan I would rather pay $70 per game for 6 games of power 5 teams then $60 per game for 6 games with two being rent a victim games. Schools get the same money and it makes better tv quality.

State Penn AD, what ever her name is, does not want a rivalry with Pitt when asked she made the stupid statement (we are Penn State), what in the world does that mean? Is she bragging or complaining what a moronic thing to say ( we are Pittsburgh, we are Pittsburgh, we are Pittsburgh ) now that sounds better

WOW, I couldn't agree with this post more.. This would actually make college football great.. Could you imagine watching football in the first 2 weeks of September and actually seeing 2 legit football teams compete against each other? My head would explode..

Actually, I hoped ACC would adopt that 9 game conference schedule in the hopes that the extra conference game takes over the FCS game but in reality, all it would do would replace a good OOC P5 matchup..

I like that as well. One other thing, they would need to get a couple more big G5 programs in say the Big 12. This scenario would ruin the G5 program's chances of ever making the playoffs. I'm okay with that, but there's a couple more G5 programs out there that are pretty good. Throw them in the Big 12 and it would be set.

I do like it, but just to play a little devil's advocate, anyone can answer.... With the 12th game would a team get more credit for playing and losing to a team like Houston as opposed to beating some nobody like Rice? Everyone would have one G5 game, and with 11 P5 games on the schedule I think most teams would just schedule the easiest G5 game they could find.

The model PSU uses will basically eat up their out of conference "road game" once they go to 9 conference games in years where they will be on the road five times in conference. Will make it harder for them to go on the road unless it's a big payday.

The sad truth about modern college football is that the only way teams will play each other on a consistent basis is by being in the same conference. Bama and Auburn, Michigan and Mich St, USC and UCLA will forever play each other because, and only because, they are in the same conference. You would've thought that with conference realignment that big traditional games would have been maintained with out of conference arrangements. But sadly, no. They just said goodbye.

Its not just the PSU/Pitt and Pitt/WVU series that have been left behind. Texas and A&M, OK and Nebraska, Utah and BYU, all gone. At least we are scheduled to play each in four game series over the next decade. This is the best we can hope for, and is better than what fans of those other old rivalries are getting. Oh well.

If Frankie Football continues to lose ground or tread water she may be joining the Rutgers AD on the unemployment line.

Probably not for much longer. As long as they could count on Temple as a sure win, they were fine. But now that the Owls punched back (and scored a TKO), I don't think The Cowardly Lion wants much more.

The result of the 2015 PSU/Temple game has NOTHING to do with things.

Long-term, PSU and Temple just have divergent philosophies as regards the series:

(1) With 9-game B1G schedules, whether one likes it or not, PSU will only play 1 road game OOC every 2 years. PSU simply isn't going to spend one of those now "rather valuable" road games adventuring to Philadelphia to play a non-Power 5 team.

(2) Temple ----- rightly ------- doesn't have interest in a long-term Penn State series unless PSU makes SOME visits to Philadelphia. Temple will not do with Penn State what Cincinnati does with Ohio State: UC will visit Columbus for a whole ton of $$$ although OSU NEVER comes to Cincinnati.

Unless things change: namely, the B1G going back to an 8-game conference schedule, Temple/PSU is going to be rare, if ever.
