...in a big way. I have to admit I was concerned the first 7 minutes w/ the way Davidson was hitting shots while getting to any spot on the court off the dribble that they wanted.
But then Michael Young dropped the BOMB by deciding to take his man to the rim & dunk not just the basketball but his man w/ it. It was Young saying I will not allow us to play like this any longer. Michael Young has developed himself into possibly a Top 10 college player. I'm not talking about Pro potential (although I think he will make a team when the time comes), I'm talking about being a well rounded impact player on the college level. He is a 5 tool player from the 4 spot. His handle has developed to highlight his individual game, he passes & more importantly is very good at it, he shoots from 15-17 feet very well while getting to the rim & he makes his Free Throws. He has become a good defender when assigned to players at his natural position. So impressed w/ who this young man has become as a player.
And Artis while getting some very questionable fouls on him has developed in the same way to complement his overall game as well. And he is a very eager distributor of the basketball.
When the absolute best players on a team are also the most unselfish it trickles down to every other player & how they play. And when a teams best players are among the best in the Country(Top 50 players, can make a arguement) that means a lot about what the basketball team is capable of....
JRob is also playing as well as I remember & having a few players as complete as Young & Artis to go to really helps complete JRob's strengths. We finally have players to go to & clear out so to speak. And we need to keep developing both of these guy's individual games. Almost asking them to become more selfish in late shot clock situations & definitely late game situations. It will only open up more opportunities for free shots off a pass the better they get as a 1 on 1 threat.
This team really has the potential to be a serious threat...how far will be determined as the season progresses. It could be very fun.... H2 PITT & JC !!!
p.s. I still worry about the backcourts over ball handling off of a full & half court press & tight man pressure.
