OBSERVATIONS from attending the game .......
- Clemson scored the only runs of the game in the top of the 1st ..... a walk, ground ball single to RF, and another walk loaded the bases with no outs ...... Hess made a great play on a hard grounder down the 1st base line to get the batter at 1st, a run scored .... then a pop out to 2B made it 2 outs with runners on 2nd and 3rd ..... the next batter fisted a pitch into shallow CF for a single and 2 more runs scored for Clemson ..... I thought our 2nd baseman should have made the play.... Zeuch pitched really well through the 8th inning after the rocky 1st .... his fastball was 88-92 mph and he has a pretty good curve and changes speeds pretty well ..... he gets behind hitters a little too much.
- Danielczyk got Clemson out without a score in the 9th ..... his fastball was 80-81 mph and curve about 68-70 mph ..... he is effective because of his underhand motion and his pitches have good movement on them .... in, out, down , and he changes speeds well.
- The Clemson pitcher was good ..... 92-93 mph fastball in the 1st inning ..... 94-95 mph in the 2nd inning ..... and he was still throwing 95 mph in the 9th inning ..... he had a good curve and occasional off speed pitch also.
- WE CAN'T HIT ....our hitting is atrocious !
- Our fielding is below average .... our outfield is OK but our infield is not as good as the teams we have played that I have witnessed.
- Our weekend pitching is good.
- Attendance was good = 986 ..... CALL THE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, we need to expand the stadium !
- Good weather ..... sunny and mid 60's.
- A lot of Clemson fans at the game but may have looked like more then there actually were because there was a Pittsburgh youth baseball team, the Outlaws, that were in orange uniforms that may have looked like Clemson fans .... there were a lot of youth baseball kids at the game.
- Some good looking girls at the game ..... both from Pitt and Clemson.
- Game 3 tomorrow at noon.
