Once again, Pitt's Coach Pat Narduzzi is living with his Players in the dorms getting to know their persona, weighing their off the field strengths, and at the same time gauging their own interests and brings true discipline and influence among the Players becoming a Team. In my opinion, smart coaches will be following this Narduzzi Trend. To me, it reflects he cares about learning to know them and conveys how important they are to him and the University of Pittsburgh. Another good read how Pitt's Coach Pat is changing Pitt Football for the better!
Excerpt:
Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi, who is living in the campus dormitories with his players through the first days of training camp, was impressed Wednesday morning when he wasn't the first person on the bus to the South Side. When Narduzzi walked outside at 5:50 a.m. to catch the 6 o'clock bus, he was met by defensive end Dewayne Hendrix.........

Didn't Bill Murray once comment about the platoon needing to be properly rested? heh

Pulling the drill sergeant on their ass. Pity you guys aren't playing PSU in that first game. Those kids are going to really want to hit someone else by the time the season kicks off.

If someone was waking my ass up that early daily, I may even want to.....after a couple pain pills of course. :p

It is not waking up the Players, like in Stripes, it is getting to know them, their music, interests, and in that way develop them as People not just Players. In that way, during and before and after Practices, Game Preps, and in Games it helps Narduzzi to form Units and Teams.

I think this is Smart Teaching by Learning about the Players and in turn when they do Practice he can use such Personal Info for Motivation and even better it keeps the Player focused on Football and Discipline.

When MSU was being beat badly with large lead in the Bowl Game Narduzzi was in the Box and not on the field, Players called him, told him, we need you down here. He went and they helped turn the game around and won. This was when he was going to take over the Pitt Job the next day. Pitt in their Bowl Game that same year lost their Bowl Game after blowing a huge lead.

I think him knowing his Players developing that kind of relationships explains both Games and Narduzzi staying in that Dorm helps him evaluate his Players Persona, not Drill Sargenting them.

We know very little on how practice is going.
Agree, but that is what Narduzzi said would happen when he took the job. I posted that long ago. Narduzzi keeps things close to his vests. Narduzzi living with his players still getting to know them better than anyone on the Lair! I am talking about his process. No question, living with Players gives Narduzzi on knowing them better than anyone and correcting it is not "Stripes".

But Sports Writers and Chris Peak do have better windows into it than any of us, including you or me? So, We Shall See? in the meantime, Bookies know more than most too, because they make a living off of knowing and staying quiet!

I haven't read an article yet where a college coach isn't happy with how practice is going.
Hmmmnnnn.....PennLive by chance or are you just being coy? Link would make all of us Think!

It can be tough to Recruit Great but then have to allow Assistants run the Team, and it is Tougher when that same Coach interferes with those Assistants that knows how to do it, but he won't let them? Sometimes that is why Coaches leave and others come and can see they made a mistake too?

I am just asking for an Extension of your Post with an Article Link. And if it is about Pitt I will not fear it, Pitt will deal with it!

Pitt did not create One Polio Cure, but created 100,000 Failures to find the one that worked!

PN had good things to say about Aaron Mathews today -- fast, tall, and goes up and gets the ball. He may be ready to play sooner than I thought.
He was one of my Top 4 Hunches that could Play Right Away! I liked Camp & Hamlin on Defense, and Matthews on Offense and Ffrench on Special Teams, just a Hunch!

Seeing will be believing and Narduzzi's silence will be a Golden Surprise in the Traditions of Pitt's Dorsett, Green, Jackson, Marino, Fralic Martin, Fitzgerald, Revis, Donald and Boyd and missed a few more too!

Boy, if Matthews plays a lot and catches some Big Passes in the PSU Game, what a De-Commit from State to Pitt? I can see him crediting Tyler Boyd for helping be good early too! We shall see?

Good info on the other site also about camp
If People really like the Lair, the best place to follow the Program is on the Premium Board. I don't pay for TV Cable so i limit myself on any services. But those Posters reall7y discuss football and know it too.

I am well versed with how Nard feeds his D with emotion thank you very much.

I was very happy when he left MSU. For which I will also say, thank you very much. :)

When I saw your comment about wake times, it just struck me. Stripes was a pretty damn funny movie. Harbaugh went submarine mode again....no real comments until training camp over. Certain coaches just have their preferred methods.

It beats a bunch of talk all August about the team being so good this yr, then having em fall on their face the first couple of games. Got tired of that approach with Hoke.

Noted...There is a Scene in Stripes when they are introducing and talking about themselves, and that is what I think Coach Pat is doing, so you weer never far off.

As far as Talk how great the Team will be this year, I am overly optimistic every year, and earlier I thought Pitt would win 7 or 8 games at Best with a far tougher Schedule and 4 New Coaches in ACC, but I am high on Coach Pat too, and hearing the Players talk about how more comfortable they are in this second year has be at DEFCON 2, Defense Confidence High, without key injuries i can see 9 Wins and if Lucky 10!

I recall a conversation or two when I explained i thought Hoke was a Joke, and you disagreed, and then again, last year I think you and myself predicted 10 Wins and Harbuagh got them!

Talking about FB what are expecting with Big blue this year?

On your Big Blue & Harbaugh too....Could be 11-2!

I am not sure Cap as what happens with QB?

With Peppers moving down to help out LBs, I cannot tell you if this will be the lone position that we don't at least border on the avg to above average mark, with several slots being among the best in the nation,

When it comes to Hoke: The players regressed each yr, and even with Mattison running the defense, the team took on Hoke's demeanor...namely of being soft. After that first year, and the ND, who would of thought what we would look like 4 seasons later. I sure didn't.

I should of saw it coming though.....that interview that Brady did after Meyer was hired showed he was intimidated. Like I said, weak.

The only thing remotely close to issues Hoke gave us during his time at the helm was Gibbons. As it was something already ruled on before he got here, and investigated by the police, I will not blame the man. He build up a nice stock of kids, and gave us 2011. In the end, it was too big a job for him.

So yeah, I don't really have any hard feelings about Hoke's time here. I am glad it is done, and wish him the best.

Hmmmnnnn.....much like Pitt for 2016, if Nate gets hurt, Pitt could be in a Big Trouble, or if Nate and Canada can't get along and Game Day Execution is missing? Should be OK if all goes well, but still a tough call until we see Game by Game?

Linebackers are crucial stopping the run and covering the Short Passes, and Teams often need more than 3 but many to stay fresh to do all of it? I played Linebacker!

Pitt went through much of the same with Foge Fazio in 1982! Great DC and Pitt Alumnus, not cut out for Head Coaching! I knew when Paterno endorsed Foge, Pitt was in trouble?

Same for Foge, great people in ever way, and great Head coaches don't grow on Tress, they grow from Great from their own roots!

One thing more, will you predict Big Blue for 2016 before First Game Day?

10-2 or 11-1. No prediction yet for bowl season. The short story reads that if we still had Ruddock, I would be calling out 12-0 right now. Leading up to the end of the year, we have several QBs that Harbaugh could make into decent starters. If none of them turns out, I am thinking one to two losses to end the season as we have several tough away games to close things out....Bucks, MSU, and Iowa. Most the season shouldn't be rough at all, as I suspect our Defense alone should pretty much seal wins. It isn't hard to outscore another team if they cannot put points on the board. D wins championships.

The TLDR version....

I am not fretting the lack of exp with LBs, as I said, due to Peppers moving down, and us having perhaps the best D line in CFB this year to clear up the tackling lanes. What helps is having a damn good secondary as well. Lewis will be an AA again at CB this year. We will lose a lot of upperclassmen next year, but damn if feels nice having the talent and experience this season.

I know we are away for both MSU and the Bucks. I am pretty sure MSU gets thumped as they lost so much. Even if they get that MSU win, we still have TUOS and Iowa to go thru at their venue. That is a bit extreme run to end the season. Not to mention do we have any injuries?

Of course, if we ran the table, it wouldn't shock me, but I am unwilling to set myself up for it. Going to temper my expectations. If it happens then great, but even at 10-2 it still gives a shot for 11-2 after bowl, which would be an improvement on last yr.

I am looking forward to 2 yrs from now, when coach has his own players, and an experienced QB.

For all the differences between Pitt and Michigan, with us both having 2nd year coaches, we are kind of in the same boat. Wait n see mode. Unlike your PSU pals, I actually think Nard will bring Pitt to among the top programs in the ACC if he does stay long term. I talk chit about Dantonio as a man, but as a coach....he really is the bees knees. Has built a program our of 2 and 3 stars, and Nard is his star pupil.

Wouldn't that chap their collective asses to be able to get above 3rd in their conference? Unlike themselves that is heh

BTW is there any solid word on how Connor is looking, and how close/far from 100 percent he is? Who will take some reps if he isn't up for a full slate?

OK, I'll will go record now and agree with the Offense may take some time, but the Defense will be ready. Only 4 Away Games nice schedule. Just a guess right now but I see a better and tougher Michigan by the 8th to 12th games:

W-Hawaii Sloppy but win!
W-UCF Tougher than expected but Win
W-Colorado Big Win
W-Penn State Bigger Win
Toss Up L-Wisconsin Watch Out Alvarez/Chryst Bushwhack
W-@Rutgers Tougher than expected but Win
W-Illinois No Love for Lovie Big Win
Toss Up W-Michigan State Revenge for bad kick last year
W-Maryland Way tougher Durkin's knows UM but Win
Toss Up W-@Iowa Ferentz underestimated but UM Offense ready by now
W-Indiana Tough game last year not this year
Toss Up L-@Ohio State Until I see Harbaugh beat Meyer
10-2
11-2 Bowl game!

Need that QB to beat OSU!

I am not, I am at DEFCON-Defense Confidence High Mode. Michigan with better talent at DEFCON 1-2 Pitt at 2-3!

Coach Pat is now his own man and ready for big time, but it will take some more time. Exhibits many aspects of Coach D but back home where he wants to be, unlike Coach D that always wanted the OSU job. I trust Tressel Talk on Coach Pat and will be in Youngstown in a few hours.

No clue, leave that to others that follow it closer than me?

I think Coach Pat eyes are set game by game in 2016, as all Great Coaches prove every year. New OC Canada must see too?

But Pitt's Don Narduzzi has it in my opinion, and his vision is set on 2018 and beyond! Up To Pitt To Make It, No Excuses been waiting for over 36 years!

Take it easy Cap
Ditto & good Luck!
