Take a look at Washington State, who lost to Portland State in the season opener. Polls are a joke.

Looks more like Pac12 bias, at least at the bottom of the Poll. USC barely gets out of Boulder, Colorado with a win & they get ranked? Wazzu is definitely a better team than they were in September, good wins for them vs UCLA & Oregon, they also had Stanford beat a few weeks ago. Still hard for me to believe they are more deserving than us though considering they lost to an FCS school (albeit a very good one) & barely got a win vs Rutgers but polls have always looked more at what you've done lately over what you've done all season, especially in the bottom half.

Really, there is no comparison. If Miss St. is # 25, We should be # 22!!! H2P

Well, it isn't just the human polls that thinks Mississippi St is better. Sagarin's computer has them at #22 vs Pitt #30.

Realize though that the numerical difference neutral field between #22 and #30 is only 3 points. So, the computer thinks Mississippi State is only 3 points better.

There is definitely an SEC bias. I am paraphrasing, but during one of the games this weekend, one of the announcers said that the pollsters and playoff committee have to take into consideration that Alabama had 5 turnovers in the game they lost or else they would have won.

The problem with Pitt in terms of perception is the losses. The Notre Dame and the UNC games are really the only two Pitt games to get any kind of national exposure going in and both games were over at halftime. Or to put it another way, unless you had a rooting interest in the game, you probably didn't watch after the first half.

SEC bias? Damn, after winning 8 straight National Championships, I would hope so.

Why would he do that? To prove he is not a homer?

By the way, Sagarin's computer which, this late in the season is far more reliable than any human perception poll has Washington State at #40 vs Pitt at #30.

No way Washington State should be in the top 25 based on their entire body if work at this time. Neither should Pitt at this point.

Look, the schools rep comes into play with these polls. We have been 6 & 6 the previous 4 years. Mississippi State has had recent success. It takes time Grasshopper.

IMO the SEC has earned that bias. In the past decade they've been the best.

Agree ricflair4LIFE. I went to an SEC school and agree sometimes teams may get some preferential treatment in the polls but hands down the SEC has been the best conference for a decade. I love Pitt more than my Vols but if Pitt played their schedule or was an SEC member we'd be on KY's level year in year out. If we were in the SEC east can anyone honestly say in the last 10 years we would have finished above SC,Florida, GA, and TN. I'll give you we could have beaten TN the last few years but at best we'd beat GA and FL once in 10 tries and maybe 2-3 against SC and probably split 5-5 with TN then we could have beaten KY and Vandy 8 or so times out of 10. I'm not pissed we aren't ranked we had 2 huge games at home and played like crap in both games so no one to blame but themselves. Win out and finish 9-3 and we'll be in the polls.

The SEC bias has been there, but it is a great conference. I'm personally getting sick of the Pac-12 this season. USC and Wash. St. getting way too much credit. No doubt, USC is a lot, lot better now that Sarkisian is gone, but you still have to take the whole season's body of work. In that case, they are 7-3 just like us. I don't think we are clearly far and away better than them, I think we're both very even and to say they are that much better than us is giving the Pac-12 too much notice.

How much has the bias led to that domination? I am doing this from memory, but I think bama played in two nc games with a loss and lsu with two losses. The voters just appointed them the best of the one loss teams. The year they played nd, they were basically handed the nc because any top 5 team was smoking nd.

They still went to the National Championship game and kicked somebody's ass. Many of those championship games weren't even close. They also play in some of the better bowl games and usually do okay.
