I always post pre season
that I won't predict any
Pitt Ball assessments
until I see em in "real
time."Ok, for now
they're a team in transition
IMO. Hopefully they're
transitioning upwards.

As far as where we are or
where I see us conference
wise.....After a few wins
against some lightweights,
blowout losses to WVU
and Michigan, I see us
as a top three team in
the A-10. The VCU game
where we were good and
bad (mostly bad) was still
a very close loss. They are
one of the top three A-10
teams.I believe we would
beat them now by seven
or eight pts. The cupcake
wins show that we're
significantly better than
the weaker conferences
inhabited by RMU, FDU,
Alabama ST, Canisius, etc.
As far as P-5 conferences
I see us at the bottom
with a few other teams.
The ACC?.....Since Capel's
arrival I still see us near
the bottom, but maybe
getting closer to the
middle. SMF see us in
the middle, I hope he's
right. I've seen a number
of ACC games, and I see
a VTech type team as
the middle, and IMO
they're better than Pitt.
Bottom line.....right now
we have upper A-10
level talent. That, IMO
translates to the lower
end of the conference,
and MAYBE closer to
the teams in the middle of
the ACC. Just my 2 cents.

Granted, I have watched very little, but it seems like the ACC will have 3 at the top (OSU, Mich, PSU football as another poster said). VT, to me, looks like that 4th team. Miami still has Wong and that KST transfer who signed that $400K contract. I think its a 3 bid league, probably 4, maybe 5. That means, Pitt has like 15 "winnable games." 8-12 seems very reasonable

You’re assuming Pitt gets better (4 years of evidence suggests otherwise) and no other teams get better. I’ll put my money on Syracuse improving thru the season over Pitt.

Pitt's history under Capel to my eye looks like a "bell curve." Start poorly, get better late OOC through early ACC season, peak as respectable mid-ACC season; then fall apart latter part of ACC season.

A likely meaningless statistic but one with a little optimism---Beat FDU by 22 -- about 9 points better than the Sagarin computer predicted.

You nailed your ACC bid prediction last year too. Plus, once the real games started in March, the ACC showed how horrible it truly was. Just as you predicted all along.

Too bad your parents didn’t stuff you yesterday when you came up from the basement in the morning instead of some poor bird.

Sagarin's computer ranks the ACC similarly horrible rsults to the moment-- results through yesterday's games:

8 Virginia = 89.76
18 Duke = 87.99
26 North Carolina = 85.92
38 NC State = 83.51
43 Virginia Tech = 83.00
57 Syracuse = 81.28
58 Miami-Florida = 81.26
74 Wake Forest = 79.44
83 Clemson = 79.01
84 Notre Dame = 78.97
111 Georgia Tech = 76.19
131 Florida State = 75.09
133 Pittsburgh = 74.99
134 Boston College = 74.96
199 Louisville = 71.19

If these were end of season results and the NCAA were to use them to select (the NCAA doesn't) then there would be likely 4-5 bids: UVA, Duke, UNC, NC St, and maybe VA Tech (if auto bid conference winners didn't squeeze them out).

I miss the Big East.

Yes. I agree with your
"4-5" bids. If the above
list were to somewhat
remain the same or
similar, it's easy to see
that Pitt is no sure
bet to get out of the
lower end, and into the
middle of the pack, as
many on here think is.
It is however possible
IMO.

ND, Cuse, WF, and
Clemson are iffy. I do
like what I've seen from
VaTech and Miami. We
have to improve our
play if we're going to
move up and win more
than 3 or 4 ACC games.
We aren't alone with
trying to fit transfers
into the program. It'll
be interesting to see
which of these teams,
including us, can do
that, and then develop
develop much needed
cohesion. Northwestern
game should tell us a lot.
