Pitt Currently #30 in Recruiting Rankings

Has a high school coach ever said his player sucked in an article about him committing

Of course, no high school coach will say his player committing to a Div 1A college team is not very good. Usually/often the player in question is his best player or, on a loaded HS powerhouse, one of his best.

That being said, a coach could say that I expect him "to do well at [name school]" or he could be more effusive and say I expect him "to star at [name school]" and that he "has future NFL potential." If the latter, how much it means will depend on whether that HS coach has previously had any of his players become stars in college and/or have gone on to the NFL. Or, finally, the coach could say the latter and not really believe it just saying it because he wants to be extra nice to his player.

I don't have access to the links requiring a sign in or a membership that quote the coach.

I am curious, what actually did this coach say?

2 schools ARE aware of him. I think we are going to be ok on this one. ODU is FBS!

He had more offers than just Pitt and ODU. Just a guess, he will blow up playing in his senior year in FL much like Habakkuk Baldonado did last year.

“He is about 6-foot-2, and is a prospect schools should be aware of.”

Wonder why 247 hasn’t evaluated him yet.

He hasn't played a game in the U.S. yet. Pitt is taking risk here getting him early based on his camps. Maybe it works out at Pitt, maybe not but he going to end up well within 247's top 1000 recruits.

Maybe he did have those other offers. Those still aren't good offers.

He may end up in the top 1000 247 recruits. That certainly is no lock. Even if he is a top 800 recruit, is that great? We should be able to land those type of kids in January. Having 1/3 of our class in August be guys we "hope" are legitimate P5 recruits is scary bad.

They can't even enjoy their current success. Everything still revolves around Pitt for some of them.

Hah, I didnt check it, since you know, every one from here is banned there, but glad you did.

They are really pathetic, I even hear some of them make fake accounts to troll and be negative to everything Pitt here.

You know the old saying goes and what ups lives by, If you cant beat them, then rape children

Pitt doesn’t have the luxury of slow playing kids if they truly feel the player is legit. The early signing period now is in December.
Slow playing? It is July/August and they don't have P5 options. If our staff "doesn't have the luxury" to still be in the living rooms of better options it is because of the staff, not "Pitt". This is season 4 and recruiting class 5.

Top 1000 is a legitimate power 5 recruit in any given year. This time last year, Baldonado wasn't on anybody's radar and didn't have any offers (until January I think). But when it was all said and done he was ranked as high as #529 by 247. Which is why some on this board (like myself) could care less about early recruiting rankings.

One thing that's been a constant - PN has identified kids early before others catch on.

Pitt offered Baldonado two days after Illinois and a day before Syracuse, and two days before he visited Michigan State. That offer came on January 17th and he finished #887. He wasn’t in play for Pitt at this point.

You realize that eight of Pitt’s current recruits aren’t rated nationally at all at the moment? That’s nearly half the class!

Top 1000 is a borderline P5 recruit. Let's count P5 and ND. That is 65 schools. Teams give an average of 23 scholarships. That means the cut off would be 65*23 = 1495. That means a player around 1000 is in the bottom 40% for a P5 recruit. We shouldn't be taking several commitments from guys even close to that bottom 1/3 of P5 talent level in July/August, let alone taking guys that we HOPE are that level of talent, but no other indicators tell that story. That is the case if we want to be an average P5 team. Hopefully in season 4 of HCPN we aren't hoping to be average.

#887 is his composite ranking. 247's final ranking was 529.

I think you might have missed the point. Had Pitt offered and he committed based on a personal workout and camps- most of this board would have bashed the offer. Just like they are now with Wayne.

You can win a lot of games with top 500 to 1000 recruits.

Chryst primary problem here was taking too many players who finished outside to the top 1000. That's hasn't been the case as much with Narduzzi.

But you are using a once of situation with after the fact information. This is a "half the class" situation and inserting your HOPE/FAITH and nothing else. Moreover, your case isn't an example of a win. It is an example of us getting an average recruit who just enrolled and we have absolutely no idea if it will work out.

Not against our schedule and division. Plus, we have very, very few in the high end of that range and practically 0 in the 0-300 range.

That thought dumbfounds me. He's the same player regardless surrounding metrics. If the coaches think he is likely to help them win games- you take them when you can get them.

Ffrench is another example. People bashed Pitt offering him until PedSt came after him. Does pedst coming after him make him a different player?

But he was still there in January. Wayne would be too.

Soon enough , this year and next , we will see the fruit of Duzz recruiting. I would say after 2019 we will know all we need to know, good or bad.
