...despite winning their only game of the week by 40 points. Logical.

I get that the Wisconsin loss looks worse and the OSU and LSU wins look not as exciting. I also get that there appears to be some kinky hope to get every SEC team ranked. Still unusual.

Take a good look at the coaches in the SEC now. 5 years ago their commissioner kind of called out the conference members for being too football centric. Most of the schools went big with hoop coaching talent and the results coupled with NIL and television money are staggering.

Nothing can be more irrelevant than college basketball polls. Our NET is 12.

If we beat Sam Houston we are set for NET going into conference play. I wish we had higher rankings because those teams are featured more in the national scores and news. But if I only get one the NET is way better.

They'll keep dropping because they aren't a very good basketball team. Wait until they get smoked by Duke by 40 points. They won't even receive a single vote. Stop being a Polyanna.

They arent an NCAAT team without Dunn but he will back eventually. Need his defense and scoring.

If Dunn wasnt coming back, I think they go 10-10 and dont make it. You dont go from a team who didnt make it and replace Hinson with no one and expect to make it
I think the book is out on how to beat Pitt. I guess lucky for them a lot of the teams in the ACC stink but we have a glaring weakness inside. I say even with Dunn we barely get in as a 10 or 11 seed.

Dunn is massively important. He is our best defender and our #3 scorer. That's a ton to lose for a team like Pitt. I think they go 13-7 but yea, they could go 11-9 even with Dunn and barely get in.

No I definitely agree with you about his importance.

Well they will. Because last years team was more than Hinson. He was great from 3, and hit or miss with the rest of his game. You also lose bub, who was great and had potential, though slightly inconsistent. You replace them with a more mature Jaland, a more mature ish, an Austin who we hoped would show up last year, and Corhen, who is a massive offensive upgrade over Fede. You then have Cummings who can mature like Lowe and Bub did last year. Bub made 6 or more 3 pt shots in a game once last year vs BC…Hinson did it 5 times out of 30 plus… I think people overrate what Hinson really did….But Cummings will be in elite Pitt territory if he can replicate his 3 pt shooting moving forward.

You only need 5-6 really and can do it.

Lowe
Leggett
Austin
Corhen
Cummings

By years end can be pretty solid all around. Dunn is important but GDG is a bigger issue right now.

Lets say Dunn was out for the year and compare last year and this year

PG - Bub vs Lowe - Bub
SG - Leggett vs Leggett - even
SF - Austin vs Austin - even
PF - Hinson vs GDG - Hinson by a million
C - Fede vs Corhen - Corhen offense, Fede defense

6th man
Lowe vs Cummings - Lowe

Need Dunn

Has Corhen been better than Fede even offensively since the first few games against cupcakes? At this point I'd argue having Fede here over Corhen would be better for the team. I still remember how he battled Bacot at the Dean Dome, played great defense and contributed offensively too. No way Corhen could do that.

Dunn is NOT our best defender. Ish is easily a better defender and rebounder. Dunn is an important player, but you are blowing his importance out of proportion.

Fede had two games with 10 or more pts last year and 21 with five or fewer. He was also 41% from the line. Corhen opened up the season with 7 straight double digit games including 3 against power opponents. He can also score without having to be right next to the basket. Total rebounding numbers are essentially equal between the two this year and last, but Fede was more efficient rebounding. Having a legit inside presence for scoring is a massive edge over last year.

Besides NET; Pitt is still #29 KenPom and #30 Torvik. Human polls are worthless.

Pitt now back to #26 KenPom and #28 Torvik this afternoon

As bad as the ACC is this year--and barring losing Lowe or Leggett for the season---there is no way this team loses more than 5-6 ACC regular season games.

As Beebah and Kante adjust more and more to college ball this team will get better and better and 18-2 ACC is not entirely impossible.

18-2 ACC? You're nuts.

Correction---17-3 (vs 18-2) is not a zero possibility. ESPN has Pitt currently favored in every ACC game except Duke, UNC away and SMU away.

On the other hand, do I really think Pitt will finish 17-3 in the ACC regular season? No, I do not.

However, given as bad as the ACC is this year. I do believe doing as poorly as going 11-9 or 10-10 is improbable--- barring the loss to injury of another key player or two.

They simply aren't "worthless". Seeing your school highlighted on the bottom line of sports channels 24/7 is huge. Seeing your team's game highlight's shown during every other game's halftime shows isn't irrelevant. It absolutely is positive exposure for your program, even if it's all about cash talking these days.

For example, when you use the ESPN app or their website, it automatically only shows the ap top 25 scores and you have to filter out of it to see non-top 25 games.

Its worthless in that it means nothing in terms of the NCAA Tournament. Sure, its nice to see a number in front of Pitt on the scroll but NET is what matters.

I do not disagree as to the publicity/public perception factor.

However, I meant worthless in terms of being a real determining factor for making the tourney.

Not only are the computer rankings inherently more accurate, they are a determining factor in getting a team into the tourney.
