***Pitt-Duke Game Thread***

Pitt fan: "You know, if we could make some shots we'd be killing them!"

We got to guard the 3 point line better. They are missing open ones, but, that won't be the case if we continue to leave them open.

Good to see us battling but nothing is coming easy for us on the offensive end. Too much being forced. Duke starting to hit shots. Danger zone now down 9.

Their defense is too good. This might be over at halftime, I'm afraid. They defend and we are giving them numerous open 3s.

We are stupid. Stop helping off Knueppel. How many does he need to make before you get a damn clue???

Need an answer for open 3s

Like contest each one to begin with

Austin has made several bad plays trying to do too much. 3-on-1 break and he blows it on us.

Feels like Pitt basketball is stuck in a Steelers-esque purgatory of being a fringe postseason team that gets really exposed when facing legit talent.

Don’t care how this game ends up. I like this team. They are showing some toughness. Just not hitting shots. I think Pitt is for real
Not hitting shots because every shot is a tough shot. We don't move the ball enough on offense to get clean looks.

That's my biggest takeaway. The difference in the quality of the looks each team is getting is startling. They're all over us on defense and we're just chucking up out of control garbage all too often.

Duke, on the other hand, is getting better looks than they got in the pre-game shoot around.

Much like I feared, their defense has us throwing up a ton of poor shots and fall away jumpers. We can't make foul shots, and ish is playing his worst game in a Pitt uniform. All while we give them plenty of open 3s.

Not really ready for this environment, poor foul shooting, turn overs, throwing the ball up on drives to the hoop, blowing a 3 on one., all the signs of being overwhelmed.....not saying it is easy at this location....

I cant hate Capel's approach to offense any more.

Its 95% dribble drive off of ball screens with zero ball or player movement. There is zero adjustment ever.

I'm getting sick of watching guys turn it over on fast breaks with numbers because the guy with the ball refuses to pass.

Im getting sick of watching Leggett force bad shots in traffic because he telegraphs his drives and, again, refuses to pass once he decides to drive.

Pitt plays NBA offense without NBA players and handicaps themselves.

This is not the kind of hoops that I enjoy watching.

We play 90s NBA ball. Everybody pull up a chair around the arc and watch either Lowe or Leggett play one on one. Or, all too often, one on two.

Better basketball talent and better athletes overall. They move the ball better than we do, and definitely play help defense better. I guess that is why they are #4 and we are on the outside looking in. At least we are not getting physically annihilated like we were at Starkville.

Not saying he's been the biggest problem tonight or whatever, but we need Cohren to be something he just isn't. A legit presence at the 5 would really change the makeup of this team.

Oh, I agree. But like @persp said above, we just don't run any real stuff to make it hard to defend us.
Our best offense does come from dribble drive and try to find the open man. Problem is, against Duke it's hard to find the open guy because they help and recover super quickly. We don't recover as quickly when we help. Also when Ish drives he doesn't even look to pass for the most part. If you can't get the foul called, then you better start looking to pass.
