Who cares golf is golf. What course was that? Looked a little frumpy.

It was Shadow Lakes in Aliquippa. We had an outing there the day before and the course is "frumpy.' Especially the greens. Really slow but that is "par for the course" there and their rates can be very favorable.
Well, I am a golf snob having worked both maintenance and in the clubhouse throughout college; at one point being a low handicapper, so can't say I agree with you there. I only have limited hours a week to play, so I'm very choosy about the when and the where. There are lots of nice courses in and around Pittsburgh, but no surprise Pitt would go on the frugal-side whilst entertaining potential large-scale donors...Who cares golf is golf.
If they have a tee, a fairway, a green, a cup, and flag we're in business!

Well, that’s cool then. Sometimes the 19th hole is even more important at these kind of events. It’s actually not a cheap round of golf. I have no idea what they charge for outings but their published rate for 18 is on the higher end for public golf within an hour of the city.
Their food is quite good and they have nice facilities for outings. They do quite a few outings. Some weekends/Friday tee times are sparse because of outings.
I agree with you!
Mrs Buffett and I play at public courses but ones we like!
Pittsburgh has lots of nice golf choices I looked it up once.
In Eastern PA we have about 15 nice public courses with 10 miles of where we live and another 10 within an hours drive.
Some of the country clubs have gone semi private or public and they're great courses to play.
Never was a low handicap player even though I play 3 times a week. I've played hundreds of league matches under real PGA rules and I weigh in around a 7 handicap for nine holes and a 15 for eighteen playing from white tees.
I'm 68 so I could play from the senior tee's but I'm not there yet, still walk, carry my bag, and play in open all ages leagues.
In the leagues in our area 0 handicap-6 is A Flight, 7-13 is B Flight, etc. I like being a 7 handicap, when I play with 0-6 guys I get killed.
Never was on the maintenance side of a golf course but caddied at Baltusrol in Springfield NJ from 1964-1969. One of the best kid jobs ever. Once I qualified, I carried doubles for two loops ( 18 holes/2 bags/ twice/day) per day at $ 6 /bag + usually $ 2-$4 tip/ bag. Close to $ 40 /day cash money in the 60's for a HS kid.
Plus we played Baltusrol every Monday on caddies day!
I'm retired Mrs Buffett still runs her business and our motto is give us a golf course, a beach (one on the Ocean), a beach bar and we're happy.
I often think about bringing some orange balls to the beach, my sand wedge, and work on my sand shots but I don't want to be banned from our favorite beach?

Go PITT & CSU Rams!
Better money in NJ. My brother caddied at Duquesne CC 65-68 for 3 per bag doubles. Maybe a burger at the turn. Made two loops a day. With tips maybe 20 a day. Thinking about 15-16 in 1966 making 100 a week not too shabby. First job when he could drive was shoe salesman in 68 as junior in HS at Tom McCann’s in Homestead. Caddying sounds better.I agree with you!
