Pitt Futbol

Guys can we stop with the “Futbol”? We are not a Futbol school. There’s is not a player on the team that refers to it as Futbol.

Respectfully,
FK
Funny that you talk futbol using all the soccer jargon as opposed to American sports terms but futbol bothers you.

Lol. I use the jargon thats inherent to the sport. Just like hockey people say “net front presence” or football people say “running between the tackles” or “hit the RB out in the flat”. I do my best to avoid terms like “pitch”, “boots” and “supporters” because I’m not English. It’s “field” , “cleats/shoes” and “fans” to me.

Well I’ll stand corrected somewhat. I have see you use the term result. Go with win or tie and I won’t say futbol.

But see , that’s a soccer term and it’s one word that replaces 3. It probably crept into the sport for ease of use and brevity.

That said I’m probably guilty of things I don’t even realize because I really do live in a soccer bubble.

I meant using it as in “needing a result” which I thought meant one’s team needing a win or tie.

Yeah King, it’s still a soccer term. But if I start saying things like the Penguins need a result tonight, then I think I have issues. Lol.

Not sports related but I really hate when people use the word “sans.” Anyway, great win by the soccer team! H2P

Fixture sucks too. And so does set piece.

Wasn’t a fan of caps until I looked up the origin. Now I actually like the term.
Set piece is ok. It’s a universal term. But fixtures is something that can be bothersome. I’ve also felt the same about the term table instead of standings. But that said, table is something that’s universally used. Go to ESPN app to check the standings, and you’ll have to click on the table tab. So that’s a term I begrudgingly use.

Soccer was invented in England. So I guess much of the terminology started there. So I wonder what word the Euro’s use for their basketball leagues for standings? I’ll have to look that up…and I wonder if they find it bothersome when people over there use basketball terminology to describe basketball.

Just went to the ESPN app to check on some of the basketball pro leagues in Europe and ESPN doesn’t have any in their app like they do for all the soccer leagues around the world.

What else would you call a set piece? That's a universal soccer term.
The answer was so obvious but until now it didn’t come to me. Set PLAY. Goddamit. What the eff is a piece?

If we ban futbol, so shall it too be done for set piece. It’s set play from this moment forward.

Every violation of set play will be met with futbol. I’m left with no choice.

Then call set play by its Spanish translation, “conjunto de juego”. Because that’s what people are doing when they are calling football “futbol”. I’m only against use of the word Futbol when it doesn’t apply. There isn’t one Spanish speaking player on Pitt’s team to my knowledge, and neither are most of us. So we aren’t a Futbol school.

I wish we were a gridiron football school though.

Jim Nantz just said “new set of downs” in this football game! Couldn’t he have said 1st down instead?
