Reports out their that Salem extended a Pitt offer for Adam El Gammel for the current class. Kind of late to be offering a new name one would think. Perhaps the offer was only to put some pressure on the recruits we have been targeting to make a decision before our scholarships are handed out to others.

Yeah looks like the U is getting desperate as well. Kid is visiting them later this month.
Great point. Kid is committed to Cincinnati. My guess is he performed well his senior year and is looking to see if he can cash in on his improved stock. He is only listed at about 255. These lighter more athletic tackles most likely fit what we want to do. I highly doubt it's a reach. Reminds me of the Mack situation. He hasn't decommitted but he is taking officials and weighing his options. I guess it works both ways.

That’s pretty much the assessment of their fans. Not exactly a happy fan base.

With 7 four stars in the current class, with high end Florida kids normally waiting, they likely will end up with double digit 4 stars or better.

I wish our fan base could be as pissed off.

Please explain.
Kid is very tall and lean. He is pretty much a big TE who can live in the weight room and dining hall for a year and still be quick enough to pass pro some of these monster edge rushers in the ACC. Like I mentioned he probably had a better than expected senior year. I'm not saying he is now our #1 OT target but I am saying it's a committable offer. It's clear Pitt want 1 probably 2 more tackles. I believe Brian O'Neil was similar size when he came in. If he can be 3/4 the player O'Neil was it's a steal.

They seem to be struggling to round out the class.

How so? Besides Alabama, Clemson & a few others we are rounding out our class like everyone else. Explain how we are different?

If you were able to do the math and a little research you would see that you are wrong. But instead you prefer to be miserable & bitch for no reason.

So here is a little research for you. We currently have 66 players set to return next year. We have 18 players (not counting Mack who won’t make a decision til the late period) who have said they will sign next week. 66 + 18= 84 players which is just 1 under the limit. Keep in mind 2 OL Mahogany & Dick will decide next week on signing day. We should land at least 1 and that puts us at 85. If both pick Pitt we are at 86. But according to you we are struggling to get players.

In addition players such as Good & the JUCO TE (whom will prob be tough to get) are making decisions soon as well. And if Mack says yes we will make space for him. Plus we will make space for a long shot like Devonshire if he picks us (he seems to be a heavy WVU lean).

We have stopped recruiting a guy like the OL Boating out of FL because we are not looking to take a G (that’s what our staff see’s him as) unless that G is Mahogany whom the staff likes more. The staff is being more selective due to lack of ships.

Kids like Gammel can fly under the radar especially when they are from NYC not exactly a football hotbed. But once teams started to see his Sr film he recently put out they realized he is an athletic OT who was under recruited. Thus Miami & Pitt offered. Out staff will make space for an athletic OT as most teams will.

But according to a guy like you Gammel would be a reach. Just as I’m sure you said V’Lique Carter was as we flipped him at this same time last year.

Sure we will have a few more players leave the team as happens around the country. That will free up the extra ships. And if we have a few more leave than expected we can always go after a grad transfer like the OL Millin who was a nice pickup.

So after reading the numbers I provided for you please explain how we are struggling to fill up this class? Can’t wait to hear you bitch more smh.

I love everything you just said and agree with your assessment of things. Although I think he might have been talking about Miami struggling to round out their class. Far be it from me to get in your business but that's how I read it. Good post though it was very thorough and accurate.

Yep, you were so anxious to blast that post that you didn't realize it was Miami he was referring to.

Thanks.

He probably is talking about Miami but I’m sure he is talking about Pitt as well even if he won’t admit it. That’s his thing to bitch even if there is not a reason to bitch.

Like you said the kid is a tall lean OT who moves well. After training table and the weight room he could be a nice OT prospect who is worth a shot.

Sure he PROBABLY IS, but if you read earlier in the thread you see him making his normal smart ass the sky is falling remarks. Saying “I gues he’s......tall?” We both know he has never seen the kid play just like the rest of us.

Miami may not be the U of the past but they always have tons of talent on their roster. Would you not take half the talent on Miami’s roster? Sure you would just like most teams in the nation would. Miami can fill up their remaining ships fast if they want. For them to offer a kid from NYC I’m guessing he has some talent besides “being tall”.

OT is a position of need for Miami in this class.

Watch this kids film and tell me what the takeaway is in terms of talent. The hope here is that they can put fifty pounds on the kid and teach him how to get into a stance and move his feet.

Sure no problem I’ll answer your question after you answer my questions from my earlier post.

I’m looking for where I said Pitt is struggling to fill its class. No.....not seeing it.

Gammel is a reach and if you can’t see it just by watching his hilight video, I don’t know how to have this discussion. We’ll just agree to disagree and move on.

I never said he was the next Brian O’Neill. You know well enough that a majority of OL prospects turn out to be nothing special. It’s a crapshoot. We don’t know his work ethic, heart etc. But I do remember our OL coach saying back in camp he wants OL especially OT’s who have length and can move their feet. Well this kid is 6’7” and moves really well. He is new to football as he was a BB player.

Our coaches must think he can put on weight and be an athletic OT down the road. You said Miami needs OT’s but we do as well. And it’s not like they lack for football prospects down in FL. So if Miami is coming north for this kid they must see something to offer him over all of the local kids down there who would love to play for Miami.

Dude don’t you know 77 has far more expertise in judging talent than the coaches at both schools Dont question his eye for talent

How dare I. Maybe Miami will hire him as their new DC.

You clearly are out of the loop as Tomlin is begging him. But the Packers are said to have offered him the HC position...sort of a Gruden type deal

I’ve heard Lykes surprise announcement was that 77 was added to the staff as the recruiting coordinator and assistant HC

YES! All 5 star kids to Pitt. Multiple national titles coming up. H2 (77)

this is, and always is, a stupid comment.

if the coaches were that high on him they would have offered him a long time ago.

he is a last minute flier. Maybe he pans out, more likely not. Certainly a project.

When a person makes a statement like this it's obvious that they don't follow recruiting that closely. I don't mean to be critical of your opinion but every team in the country does this as recruiting boards are changing, evolving, and updating all the time. Couple years ago around this same time we offered a 2 star corner from Connecticut with an unimpressive offer sheet named Jason Pinnock. He is outperforming 4 star recruits we were on for years in that class. There are lots of high school football players in the world, and unfortunately some get overlooked.

Now we’re going to get 5 Star talent!!!! He’s gonna make it look easy! We DESERVE highly rated recruits...All you have to do now is go get’em!

If he fails to land them, then he isn’ t trying hard enough or he’s settling for mediocrity.

So the four star RB they signed is a flyer or salahuden is a flyer or the kid that recommitted from Miami is a flyer.

Things change in recruiting.

These constant debates about whether some 2-3 star player with a mostly mid-major offer sheet that we offer is worthy of a P5 scholarship or not are pure mental masturbation.

Look at Pitt's record over the past 25 years.

Look at Pitt's recruiting classes over the past 25 years.

Then tell us all again--and again, and again, and again, and again times 25--about how the coaches are identifying all of these diamonds in the rough in every class.

Until they can start hitting on about 80% of all the lightly-recruited players we bring in here, you can expect the results on the field to continue to look a lot like they have the previous 25 years.

Aaron Donald was a lightly recruited guy with a weak offer sheet, who ended up being the best defensive player in the NFL. But he's one guy--you play the game with 22 on the field at all times. Larry Fitzgerald was a highly recruited, much sought after HS prospect who ended up being a first-ballot HOFer and one of the best to ever play his position. But he was one guy--you play the game with 22 on the field at all times. So until the coaching staff comes up with either a lot more of the highly recruited types and/or a hitting on a lot more of the types in every class, or both--in other words, upgrading the overall collective quality of the classes they are bringing in--we can expect more of the same.

So at the end of the day, the debate over whether this El Gammel kid is worthy of a P5 schollie is pretty much pointless.
