Pitt's basketball Hall inductees must start with the only two Pitt individuals inducted into both the Naismith Hall of Fame and the College Basketball Hall of Fame. How embarrassing would it be for these men to be in both of the inaugural classes for those Halls, but not Pitt's?
Charlie Hyatt: Pitt's only 3X 1st-team Consensus All-American, Pitt's only national scoring champ, and Pitt's only National Player of the Year, he was a member of Pitt's only two basketball national championship teams. Hands down Hyatt is the most decorated and accomplished basketball player in Pitt history.
And Clifford "Doc" Carlson, the 31-year head coach of Pitt basketball who was recognized as winning 2 national championships including Pitt's only undefeated team, he also coached Pitt to play for another championship in the American Legion Bowl, coached Pitt's only Final Four team, won 4 Eastern Intercollegiate Conference titles (out of 7 years of its existence), invented the Figure 8 offense and multiple innovative training regimens, was one of the first coaches to schedule nationally, authored multiple books on coaching and training, and was awarded the Most Contributions to the Game Award by the NABC. As a student, Carlson also lettered in baseball, basketball, and football at Pitt; earning 1st team All-American status as an end under Pop Warner for the latter.
Carlson and Hyatt, and then: Cribbs, Hennon, Knight, Smith, Knight, Blair, and Dixon.
