Baseball is usually a sport where statistics are more meaningful and logical but this one by Pitt is mind blowing in the fact that we have won so many games, had so many all-time greats and been playing for 126 freaking years and yesterday marked the first time they have scored 36 or more for 6 straight games is pretty meaningful even by modern standards. To do it rushing, passing, defensive and special teams is a whole lot of icing on that cake.

Pitt is severely flawed but in my 46 years alive I'm not sure I have ever seen more ways for more people to touch the ball and contribute than yesterday. I caught myself yelling " who is he ?" Or " who is # fill in the blank".

I'm not privaledged to what is said on the recruiting trail but I have to imagine parents are curious when their kids get the pitch to why play at Pitt and how they may contribute early in a way other schools can't prove on film.

Yesterday was entertaining.

Two flea flickers ? Loved it.

But Matt Canada was fired.

Wait until next year when we have to replace our line...

These are Paul Chryst recruits. Narduzzi is wanny jr.

We didn't really score 45 yesterday as 14 came on kickoffs and whitehead plays...

(Any other lame panther-lair excuse I need to include here? )

In all seriousness this team reminds me of those big12 teams. We have studs at rb and Oline but are weak in the passing game, yet still are churning out points. It is clear that with an influx of talent in the secondary, this team is scary good next year. I don't care about a freshman qb as they will ask him to do no more than Peterman is doing this year. I expect big things in the next couple years.

Yes. The scoring is pretty amazing. As I noted below, not counting the Villanova game, our per game average is 40.2 per game over the last 6 games. Too bad we are allowing 35.5 points per game over that same stretch. Fortunately there are some signs that even that porous defensive may be beginning to improve--at least somewhat.

Its really been nothing short of absolutely remarkable.

Really... that is true. We have an average QB, a kid coming back from cancer and literally no real wide receivers (especially with Ford immediately injured and out).

I suspect the defense will improve as well. NC and OSU will make most any teams defense look very very bad... as NC made Miami look bad yesterday. We are starting to see much better numbers there the past 3 weeks, and the sacks keep coming as well. Very aggressive D, lots of pressure on the dbacks to perform well. I think this combo of coaches have a real shot, with some recruiting, to have a national championship type team

And you forgot the big one. Peterman sucks.

Part of this is an indictment of our offenses for the past decade.

Worth noting, the Pitt offense is 68th in points scored per game.

What has struck me is the sheer number of "big plays" by the offense. Seems to me we've already seen a whole season's worth of offensive plays going over 20 yards, and over 30 yards, and over 40 yards...

Going to be easy to make a Pitt "highlight" video after this season, but it's going to be a long video...

Go Pitt.

Thats amazing and shows where defense has gone in recent years.

Imagine how good we will be with even an average secondary and a mobile QB that can throw a good deep ball (and I like Peterman). We are still a ways off but you can start to see just how good this program can be.

Now to be fair, espn has Pitts offense rated #18 on their efficiency scale, though they really don't explain their formula.

Defense, btw, is ranked #68.
Special teams is #46

IMO what's amazing about all this offensive output is that we're not a spread type,
hurry up offense, yet we're scoring like never before. The coaches (Canada) are creating mismatches mostly without elite players, (exception for O Line and Connors) but realistically they're creating this offense with average or "good" type Div1 players. Nobody in their right mind can accuse our WR's as being elite, yet they're also now producing as a group. The same goes for ...good, but hardly elite other players. Does anyone think that out FB would even see the offensive side of the field on most teams from major conferences? Yet he's an
integral part in what we're doing.
Kudos to our players, Canada our OC, and Narduzzi for hiring Canada!
