Bryce Lindsay. Not ranked by either 247 or Rivals but has a decent Final 3 with South Carolina and OK St. We were just talking about recruiting territories in another thread and this is an example of 3 schools, 3 different conferences, 3 different parts of the country. These kids will go anywhere. It doesn't matter where your campus us.

He is CB'd to South Carolina. Regardless, his Santos-like rank or lack thereof indicates he wont contribute until later in his career.

We were not even in this kids top six, although he did reopen his recruitment. Don't know how likely this is given the uncertainty in the bball department. Would this guard even help us anyway? Many of you know a lot more about his skill level than I do, thoughts?

Pitt isn't even really recruiting Lindsay, according to him. Tbh I don't think they're recruiting anybody.

It frustrates me to no end to see we’re not camping out on Avery Brown’s front yard. Northeast kid that was a bit of a late bloomer/under the radar type is considering West/Mid West spots like Colorado/Nebraska. Love his game and he’s a kid that has been looking for a home after some of his preferred options didn’t materialize. We should have been all over this.

Lindsey would be a longer-term option and Capel has 1 year left so he's got to focus on transfers. There aren't any HS players left that could help us next year.

Really?!? I "know" Pitt and company are recruiting, but friggen who???
I understand that many of the portal commits, came out of nowhere, but seriously, gotta recruit some HS kids as well.

Recruit to shoot. Wasnt that Howland's philosophy. I would love to have a bunch of shooters with the way the game has changed. Give me 4 guards who can shoot and Hugley in the middle. Run 4 out and 1 in with spacing for John to work inside.
His philosophy -
But then didn’t actually recruit shooters

So Pitt has ZERO 2022 recruits in late January and they aren't interested in a top 140 player, after recruiting only on kid last year. They're going to have at least 4-5 spots to fill, and could get to 6 fairly easily.

What am I missing here?

the magic low major portal is what you are missing! we will stacked with gueye type players and ride off into the sunset with glorious sub 500 conference records! we will be back.....to the 1990's ( we are below that currently)

I think the point you are missing, is there are plenty of spots for a new coach to bring in players. Capel is just making it easy for the new guy.

I don't follow college basketball like I used to, but I have never seen something before. Granted things changed once this stupid portal BS started, but to not openly, actively recruit high school kids is really confusing to me.

Another Gueye and Burton type player would actually be good!

I will gladly add anyone to the team listed as "sharp shooter". There is only so high of a plateau when your team averages 61.8 points a game.

We are currently 341st in scoring out of 358 D1 Teams. Let that sink in.

That's fine, but you need a program with upside to attract the high-end transfers. In addition, these kids would like a chance to play in the tournament. Why go from a middle to lower tier MAAC (or other) team to a lower tier Pitt team?

Right. The Gamecocks landed a commitment Friday afternoon from 2022 shooting guard Bryce Lindsay, who picked South Carolina over schools like Oklahoma State and Pittsburgh.
I think Pitt could have landed this kid in the early signing period had they wanted to.

True Gary but Capel is honed in on all transfers. IMO a team needs a balance of HS and transfer players.
