Like all rankings this is an artificial construct. Similarly, Sagarin's computer ranks Pitt anywhere from #137 to #146 depending on which of his four ratings you take.
In either case, these are so far from being in about the top 45-ish which is about where you need to be to get an NCAA Tourney berth (given the slots guaranteed to non power conference winners) that it continues to be a major disappointment to all Pitt fans.
That being said, IMHO, the Sagarin numbers appear closer to the sad reality of Pitt's place in the pecking order of college hoops this season since the numerical scores associated with the Sagarin rankings closely track with the betting odds coming out of Las Vegas for individual games.
