Happy with it?

Acceptable?

Disappointing?

Very disappointing.?

I have been trying to put a positive spin on it, but if I am being truthful (with the number of players available), it frankly sucks.

This has been the biggest rigged transfer market in the history of the world. Everyone knows it. Pitt actually has the bestest recruits of all time. They would win multiple national championships next year but they need your help so send them all of your money.

Regular recruiting class: D-

Just awful. Capel desperately needs a really good (not average) class SIGNED in November. Hugley coming back probably gets him to 4 or 5 ACC wins which avoids disaster and a possible firing but wins on the court are going to be hard to come by the next couple years so he desperately needs a great class to show their is SOME hope

I thought sleepy jeff knew what he was doing when he was running off players at the end of the season...get rid of the problems and get a jump start on the transfers. He didn't, and in addition to that he lost a big that could be developed. It's disappointing. But it's not very disappointing. Add a center and it's acceptable. With Reid I'd have been happy with it.

Besides the possibility of adding Manley, I truly hope Capel has something up his sleeve for the roster during the Summer months. Something out of the blue, which most of these recruits have been, but we need a splash. Huge transfer market and Pitt adds two OK guys. But that's where Pitt is at - we're not going to add KU, UK and other big named school types of guys. The class is B- -ish, so hopefully we ca add another name or two and get those spots back for 2022.

I like the guys we added for the most part. But the problem is they are not being added to a team with much talent. With how the season ended and with how we had so many guys transfer we needed to Bring in high end talent and we definitely didn’t do that. So I would say it’s another fail for capel

Pitt isn’t a high end talent school , if you haven’t noticed ! By the way except for the Golden Panther era it never has been .

Really? When?
When people were saying there were no players available, I posted a list of 12-14 C/PFs.

I know you saw it. you commented on it. It started with Colin Smith and Tyler Stevenson.

Your pessimistic comment rained on my optimistic post

Don't know if you are an ESPN subscriber, but this is a good list ...

Our two transfers are nowhere to be found, and none of the gentlemen you have just posted are on the list. I just don't see any real help next year other than Justin and Reid. (For reference, Xavier and Toney are 47 and 51 on this list.)

ESPN Top 100 transfers

There are useful players available. We need to start landing them.
Which of us was more optimistic here?

Several of my posts in this thread that “I” started : Physicality

Does this count as trying to stay optimistic?
Oh please. You hoped things would turn around. I’m certain you’re not rooting for failure. But I’m equally certain there’s not been one optimistic thing about you.

So to summarize all Capel had to do was add a 5 star national top 20 McDonalds AA center and this class would be OK?

No, Reid = Happy.

To summarize,

It's not very disappointing, it's currently disappointing, add a center and it's acceptable, add 5 star national top 20 McDonalds AA center it's a happy class.

You do agree that the comments I referenced should be considered as signs of “trying to be optimistic”?
There is an attempt, yes ... but I also think everyone Knows how you actually feel. And to be honest, I don’t have any Issue with a less than optimistic take. There are very real concerns with Coach Capel. You might be better just sticking with that instead of sprinkling in positivity—it can appear disingenuous. Plus, as I’ve said to you before, many including me, have a tougher time swallowing your Capel take knowing what your Stallings take was.

I guess I was thinking about the subliminal part. ;)
His understanding of optimism is about on par with his understanding of subliminal.

Again there’s no doubt he hoped and hopes it will turn around. But there’s also no doubt he thinks it won’t. How else to explain his silly campaign to turn people on Capel. You can’t be optimistic while ranting and raving on a daily basis how the coach should be gone.

Disingenuou? In both of those threads I went the extra mile to buttress what I was saying. Don’t you think?

I believe what I post. I may come across as sanctimonious, but In light of my honesty in describing my own posting rationale, I would think it very, very hard to question my honesty.

His idea of being optimistic is that he "posted a list of 12-14 C/PFs".

Meanwhile, he was trying to convince everyone that Kevin Stallings got a raw deal here.
Yea. And It’s not that he’s not honest. Probably believes what he’s saying. Just doesn’t understand words. Anyone who is optimistic would be hoping Capel STAYS. And that’s just one example.

And we both know that deep in his heart he believed we’d get exactly none of those 12-14 guys. Just being available hardly equates to optimism unless you post you’re sure we’d get a couple. Or at least feel good about our chances.

I'm not questioning your honesty at all.

As I said to you before, myCapel take is formed by what went down with Stallings.

I fully realize we are not anywhere near close to agreeing on that.

If Stallings never existed, my Capel take would still equate harsh, just not driven by my sense of outrage against vastly different treatment.

Right Now - Disappointing

There are still players available, so I’m not ready to close the book yet.

Like I said earlier in the thread, concerns about Capel, even a relatively harsh take, seem entirely justified.

I don’t think Pitt should part ways with Capel yet. But I ask this question honestly: how long do you give him? This next year is basically starting over entirely. It is very concerning that he needs a mulligan after 3 years at the helm. It is equally as concerning that he has had to bring in a bunch of Plan C transfers just to field a team. This season is likely to be ugly. After the 22-23 season je will have been at Pitt 5 years. What do we need to see in 22-23 to justify keeping him?

Not sure if you think I was saying he should be here for a while but I wasn’t. Was just using that as an example. Wasn’t really advocating one way or the other.

The answer though is I don’t think he should be here too much longer if something doesn’t change. With all this bullshit about him overlooking the ‘21 class but last focused and all efforts for ‘22 I say if he doesn’t produce there - see ya.

And FWIW - I’m not optimistic. At all. But would love to be wrong.

Not at all. Just dovetailing on some parts of your post to pose that general question to everyone.

That was a Vader dreamed up excuse. I'd hope the staff would never skip a year of recruiting.

My take is they simply can't close for whatever reason. Better figure it out real quick.
Exactly. That was total fiction. Even before the mass exodus the roster had a ton of holes that needed urgent attention. The notion that Capel was basically "recruiting light" for 21 and saving it all up for 22 is utter nonsense.
